We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My name is Andrea Garcia and I am from Cali, Colombia. I used to live in Bogota, Colombia before moving to Miami. Due to an unexpected and very painful situation in my life, I decided to start a new one in the USA.

Even though I love my country, the pain caused by a tragic event encouraged me to pursue a different path far from my home. In 2014, I was supposed to get married to the love of my life, but God had a different plan. Hours before our wedding my love past away. His soul traveled to Heaven to be with God.

That pain over the years was transformed into grief, mourning, and depression until finally, I felt happiness again in me, in my life. During the healing process, I put on paper, a diary, all my feelings, and thoughts which later down the road that diary became my book “Me Caso Contigo Desde El Cielo” (Spanish version). A book that was written from the bottom of my heart with the purpose of helping people who have also suffered and grieved for a loved one that has passed away.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I completed my MBA at Florida National University in 2020 and have 6+ years of experience working for multinational companies in the medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods industries. I have had roles in sales, finance, HR, and admin departments where I have gained a wide business experience. I also have expertise in strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting. Working with multicultural teams across the globe I have been able, to easily adapt to new challenges, develop problem-solving skills, and collaborate with people to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is beautiful! I try to enjoy the beach and the sun as much as I can. Since I am also an Art Lover and in fact, I work as a Sales Representative at an Art Gallery, I highly recommend to friends, family, and all kinds of visitors to appreciate art available in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very thankful for all the support during my years of grieving from my friends and family. Their strength allowed me to transform that pain into happiness again.

Without the help of “Magico Ciclo al Sol”, my book would not have been published and launched with such success in so a short time. The knowledge of Olga Elena Areiza and Monica Torres as my writing coaches was key to creating my book which was only an idea and some notes in my diary.

Thank you to all of you.
