We had the good fortune of connecting with Andres Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andres, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I noticed that when I started taking risks and betting on myself, I felt true accomplishment, happiness and success. Often we’re taught to avoid risk, wether it’s in business, finance, or life but I think by carefully assessing challenges and “learning as you go”, we can discover our full potential. Taking risks, even when I may not have felt one hundred percent ready to take them, led me onto great networking opportunities, jobs and even great friendships.

Early in my career as an audio engineer-producer I missed out on amazing moments and connections because of the fear of failure. After experiencing that a few times and left with the deep curiosity of, what if? I started to trust my intuition and become more familiar with myself, my thoughts, fears and dreams alike. I decided to name my record label/publishing company ‘Vision Quest” as a reminder that we must follow thru with our goals and remain disciplined in whatever journey we embark on, wether it be creatively, physically or spiritually.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to believe that music can have a healing effect on people and that it can serve a purpose. Wether it’s creating a safe space to allow artists to voice their feelings, or to collaborate in the name of diversity, unity and understanding, it can bring together people from all walks in life. When I create a piece of music I remind myself of this, and it’s helped me to connect with like minded individuals along my journey.

By stepping out of my comfort zone, fully believing in myself and networking for close to five years at tech/music industry events in my city, I’ve been able to find a community of artists who support one another in pursuit of their goals. and aspirations. Every individual I seem to come across is skillful at something, I like to remind people of just how powerful they are if they trust their natural intuition and believe in themselves. As artists we tend to get in our heads a lot and may sometimes block our own blessings, so learning to avoid perfectionism, ignore negative criticism, and doing it for the love of the art has helped me to overcome many challenges.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When people come and visit New York City and ask me to guide them around, I make sure to show them places like Central Park, especially in the summer when we have Summerstage music concerts playing outdoors for the public. We’d take a tour of Queens, Brooklyn and The Bronx to check out some fun restaurant/bars they have all around. Some key places would be Astoria, Queens where you can find Greek, Brazilian, Portuguese, Peruvian cuisine to offer. Williamsburg and Dumbo neighborhoods in Brooklyn have some amazing views that look straight into Manhattan, right under the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridge. With citi-bikes available across the city, we can ride some bikes across into Lower Manhattan and ride into Washington Square Park to listen to some of the street musicians, and check out some street vendors along into Union Square Park. For those who enjoy trekking and hiking, I’d offer a ride into Bear Mountain which is located more upstate, approaching the Catskills where they have beautiful views of the mountains and rivers and offer a more scenic view of New York’s natural habitat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would firstly like to give a special shout out to Amaya Santos who was gracious and kind enough to shout me out here. As a fan of her music, entrepreneurial spirit and character, it is an honor to be recognized by her. I would like to dedicate some love to the “Pink Hearse Collective” created by my friend Zachary Murdock and our dear friend Taylor Cox who is now with us in spirit. I’ve had the opportunity to create two music EP’s and a music video with Zachary, remotely from two different cities. He’s been an inspiration to say the least and one of the most open minded, kind hearted humans I’ve had the honor to connect with.

The Pink Hearse collective consists of artists, musicians, painters, and creatives of many other mediums. There is currently a Podcast available on all streaming platforms (Pink Hearse Podcast) which include in-depth interviews with amazing souls, new music with each episodes and even great book recommendations here and there.
