We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Gaines — A.B.O.B. Music Nicholas Gaines — A.B.O.B. Music and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew Gaines — A.B.O.B. Music, what role has risk played in your life or career?
No risk it no biscuit haha. Risk… such a daunting word. Seemingly insurmountable. Feels like death’s shadow. Feels like hopelessness mixed with uncertainty doomed to failure. Yet… So many of the greatest success stories, people we look up to — Lebron James, Steve Jobs, Peter Guber, Kobe Bryant, Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, to name a few — ALL took risks to get to where they are now. They surpassed their wildest dreams. Took steps into the realm of un-fathomability. It’s terrifying… even now. What if you’re judged? Ridiculed? Laughed at? However… what if there was another side? Another way of looking at it? [Risk]. What if you could see, feel, and experience something that your mind, body, soul, and spirit could ever imagine co-existing with? It’s true… Some people won’t understand. Let them. You just go. Why not see the other side of that un-fathomable thing? What if risk actually meant discovery… Learning more about yourself… The world. The people in it. Doing more. Being better. Goodness. Honesty. Truth. What if it still came with all of those uncertain feelings, emotions, and circumstances? It does. It will. But… What if there was another way… What if a risk was merely an illusion… Or what they want you to believe about it — in the sense of not to pursue it. What if taking a risk is going in the right way directed by wisdom? What if a risk was knowledge, power, trust — held together by that direction. There is no clarity in seemingly the most important things in life. What we hope for. Aspire to do. Be. I believe Maya Angelou said this — and I paraphrase, “Clarity is the last thing you’re clinging to that you need to let go of.” Where she didn’t have clarity. She had trust. Faith. Take the risk. In wisdom.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We strive to be vulnerable in our music and visual production. Open. Honest. Emotionally present if you will. We’re flawed, not perfect, have made mistakes. We’d be the first to tell you. But we refuse to stick around where we are. We want our music to reflect that. We always told ourselves to be a “Package Deal” as we like to call it. Meaning, differentiate yourselves as a recording artist, lyricist, performer, visuals. Being vulnerable has helped make this happen. Shining a light on emotions/situations that most people aren’t comfortable sharing is what makes the music personal. People want to relate to something… Why not express the things that make us human. That make us one. Our production selection and the sounds we choose to record over is vital to this; it’s what sells you to the consumer. Like momma says, “You gotta put your best foot forward.” We’re big on sonics that allow our listeners to escape the Earthly realm & travel to our world. What we see as transcending the music. The fact that we make music as a family is amazing & truly a blessing. We’ve been doing this for almost 7 years now; and we’re in this together. We’re really excited about the new music we’re recording. The sound of it. All we’ve been learning in the studio. The new videos we’re producing down to the new agency we signed with during the pandemic. We also have a new single we’re about to release in late March called, “INTERNET MONEY.” With more music in the vault currently being mixed. And the videos to accompany them. We Look at God as the reason for all of this. Creating uplifts our spirit & seeing how much we’ve grown as human beings & musicians… isn’t a coincidence. We’re proud of what we have come to understand about the world around us, ourselves, and our place in it. Hopefully we can use what we create and then some to be vessels for good. Give back. Start and join the initiatives we know will benefit communities and lives. Be apart of something real. We make hip hop/ punk rock music — typically rated PG-13 to TV-MA haha. But we *understand + *know. And those who do KNOW — know exactly what we’re talking about. Our true nature and purpose. Music, creating, being successful — having a great family, friends, and falling in love is all icing on the cake. A blessing. It’s hard. But trust God. Do good. And ball out baby! 🙂
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Brickell, Mid Town — lounges, bars, shopping on the strip. Bayside — get a feel for the city, atmosphere, tropical vibe. Design District and Bal Harbour to get a taste of Miami’s fashion scene. Jet Skiing and beaches + a number of the aquatic attractions the city has to offer. Hit the Grove and just catch a vibe. 🙂
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
