We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Moschburg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think of risk, I think of my art. Risk is a part of my everyday life. Many run from the thought of taking a risk, however, I live for these moments. Without risk I would not be where I am today. Ever since I could remember I have always risked my own luck. Although I don’t believe in blind chance, just like a game of chess, I always try to calculate my next move. If it was not for me taking risks, I would never have pursued my art. The hardest part to risk is gaining the confidence to take such a leap. In the end, my career was waiting on this very thing, the risk was a necessity to engage in the next step. I dropped out of college to pursue my art career, soon after I quit my full-time job with no guarantee of being able to carry on. Leaving my job was the type of risk that fueled me. This helped me focus every aspect of my life to create my dream of being a full time artist into reality. After applying all I had into my art, life finally began to reflect the hard work done. I now find myself today more careful than my younger self, but who I am today would never exist if I did not take risks. Risk can be dangerous when used unwisely but with passion, dedication, and hard work it can take you places no easy decision can. I would not change a moment of my past, I encourage anyone with a dream to risk it all, and may they find passionate shores of peace awaiting their harmony.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a menagerie of stories and untold emotions coming in many shapes and sizes. The beginning of my artistic journey sprouted off with canvases. I always found a deep connection, a bond if you will with each and every painting. I felt as if I was creating more than just an image, I felt as if I was breathing life into a canvas. Each painting is a pattern from my past. A visual way to describe the ineffable. These works of art began to grow, eventually, these images began to shape my soul with purpose. At a young age, I traveled vastly to far away lands. Each place I saw new adventures to learn new lessons about different cultures and the human race. As an artist, these journeys influenced everything I create. I believe it is this unique past, a combination of “great family”, and diverse cultures that separate me from other artists. I find myself most thrilled about the unique obscured concepts in projects, meaning by exploring a design concept I have yet to try. I believe it pairs well with the sensation of traveling somewhere you have never been. I enjoy the rush I feel when I take a new risk. Anything seems possible, my mind is the most creative with conceptual beauty. When I left home for college that’s when the traveling stopped. I used this urge for the unknown and channeled it into my artwork. It was not easy getting my career started. At first, everything seemed too far out of reach, but I never gave up. I knew with hard work and dedication anything is possible. No hard work goes unseen. I got my foot in the door the day I began to work with an artist who mentored me. He originally needed help on a colossal-sized mural. Though the biggest challenge was trying to keep the art business going in between projects. The grand duality of choices, food, or creativity. I choose creativity, but with some miracles and dedication, the light shined through the end of the tunnel. This is what I hope the world will see through my artwork. Not just the deep emotional subjects and complementary colors, but rather see the story behind the artist. The dedication and hard work it took to get to where I am today. The path I choose to go has no guided GPS, or signs, just your own two feet, and if you are lucky a great family to help steer you on the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my opinion, the best spots in Orlando are found in a variety of genres. If it were me, I would start my day by visiting the springs, Wekiwa Springs is a gorgeous place to cool off or jump on a kayak. These natural beauties are a fantastic place to seek inspiration. If you were looking for some good grubbing, I would check out Pepe’s Cantina in WInter Park, or a variety of Orlando’s vegetarian cuisines. The jewel of the city lies at the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center, where you can watch an assortment of performance art, from opera to ballet. If you are looking to relax for the day check out the Orlando Museum of Art where they have exhibits showing work from over 500 years ago. For some real excitement check out Mills Avenue for the best bars in town. Don’t leave without seeing the botanical masterpiece that lies at the Leu Gardens. At the end of the day, there is too much going on in this beautiful city to name it all. Here are just a few places you might find me.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my family. Around every corner, they have always been there to lend a helping hand. Even when I made decisions they were not too fond of, they never gave up on me. Since I was little my mother always encouraged me to paint, she saw the creative side in me. I always looked up to my father. I saw the hard work, and dedication he carried out in everything he did. I use this today in everything I paint. My siblings have always been my best friends and continue to support me in more ways than one. We were raised on unconditional love, and with the mindset to do the best we can at anything we do. It was this devotion that inspired me to create with great passion and dedication. Family is like sailing, we need everyone’s help to steer our future in the right direction.
