We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Yasgar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As cliche as it may sound I didn’t choose it, its chose me. Since as far back as i can remember i loved to draw. It put me in this alpha wave zone that brought peace to my mind that was cluttered with thoughts, ideas, impulses of overactivity that i think everyone in my family was overwhelmed with. My family always encouraged me, even when i took on being a graffiti writer. My mother knew it was illegal and dangerous, and begged me to be careful. I was careful and VERY active. So i guess growing up supported and learning new skills every year is why i chose it. I was praised, supported and given the tools to move forward creatively thats why i do it today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I basically live in 2 worlds. I have been an art director for the Silverman Group which is a marketing firm in New Haven, CT for the last 21 years. I continue to do both design and create commercially, and be a professional artist. The balance is actually really good because it keeps my artwork fun and non dependent on making money which means i can take chances artistically creating new pieces in new directions because i have the income of being commercially busy to support it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I assume this is about Miami?

There is so much to do first and far most the graffiti museum in wynwood followed up by a whole day visiting the sites and murals of wynwood. I am a huge fan of Pollo tropical so that would be the first place we would go, probably hit that a couple times. ENRIQUETA’S would also be on that list for the daily morning run. I would visit the Rainbow Valley playground installation at Aventura Mall in Miami by friends with you for sure. I would hit the beach for sure in south beach and while im there Puerto Sagua for lunch or dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother is defiantly at the top she molded me from the beginning. My father had a very creative job within the music industry so that also played a huge inspiration. My graffiti crews (BLT/IMOK/Time Is Too Short) inspired me to push my limits and to stay on top of creative ideas. Vaughn Bode/ Jack Kirby inspired me through comics and everyone i worked with within my life.
I have been fortunate enough to call some of todays greatest artists friends.
