We had the good fortune of connecting with Andria Lecidor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andria, why did you pursue a creative career?

Throughout my life there has been multiple times and experiences where I felt like people wanted me to change things about myself to be more socially and culturally acceptable. Either it was my nappy hair or colored hair, my body shape or lack there of, I always feel like there was something I had to be insecure about. It wasn’t until my early twenties where I started to feel more confident in myself. When I began to experiment with my style and sharing it on my social media, receiving the really positive feedback made me feel sort of silly for “toning down” myself to please other people. Most importantly it made me want to share myself and my ideas more.
This is what led me in work in a creative field because I know there’s younger girls out there who feel the same way as me. If they saw someone like me becoming successful for just unapologetically expressing myself then it may inspire them to tone out the negativity around them and just live their lives in their truest form. I know if I saw more people like myself when I was younger then I think I would have spent my younger years not obsessing about the negative things people said about me and suppressing myself and my creativity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With all the projects I chose to work on I try to focus on ideas and themes that are genuine to me and I think it reflects in my work and that’s why people gravitate to me. There’s always going to be a couple hurdles in the way especially when you are trying to do things that are not part of the social norm but it is very gratifying when I release a blog or social media post and I get positive feedback from my followers. I think one thing I learned through out the years is that you shouldn’t wait for approval or acceptance for any idea or project you are passionate about. Before deciding to enter the jewelry industry or starting my blog, I shared these ideas with others and so many people tried to deterred me for various reasons. At the end of the day if you are driven, determined and persistent all your visions can become a reality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is an amazing South Florida based travel blog called Coastlines to Skylines where I look up the coolest things to do in the city. One of my favorite neighborhoods in Miami is Wynwood. Not only is it a great place to get creative inspiration but my favorite Mexican food place, Taco Stand is there as well I love getting their shrimp burritos and the guacamole is always fresh. Enriqueta’s Sandwich Shop is also another place you should try out if you what a taste of Miami’s Cuban cuisine. Oasis and the Museum of Graffiti are other fun places in Wynwood I like to check out when I have free time. The beach is one of the other places in Miami I love going too. Not just to soak up some sun and watch the waves but there are awesome restaurants and bars along the strip. Juvia and Mila are just two of the many bars and restaurants I love spotting into when I’m in South Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family who supported me throughout all the years of me trying to “figure it out” and creating headaches for them along the way.
