Meet Andy Cagnetta | CEO of Transworld Business Advisors

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Cagnetta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andy, what do you attribute your success to?
Doing the right thing for others and helping others be successful. It’s what we are all about at Transworld “Good Deals, Good People”. I have spent my career building our team that empowers others to be what they choose to be. Whether it’s buyers who seek to be a business owner or sellers who want to retire with lots of money in the bank. We also have a deep commitment to serving our community. That includes being involved and leading in our industry, or getting involved in nonprofits like Lifenet4Families, United Way, Junior Achievement, Compass Probono, and the Clery Center.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My 28 plus year career at Transworld started with me being a customer. After visiting Transworld, the topic of me joining the sales team was initiated and I thought that could be a great idea, since I knew no one in South Florida. It was a great idea and I fell in love with the business. After a couple of great years I then bought the company in 1997.
We eventually opened some bigger offices here in Fort Lauderdale, and then we started acquiring some business brokers across the state of Florida through some joint ventures. We built out Florida, eventually having 10 offices throughout the state which we still own and operate.
We knew how difficult it would be to manage offices remotely in places like Atlanta, Charlotte, and cities further away. As for hiring people, getting started in a market, and everything else involved in growing a territory is a full time local job.
So, in 2010, we decided to franchise. We partnered with United Franchise Group to expand worldwide and we’ve become the number one business brokerage, with over 250 offices in about 20 countries outside the U.S.
A lot of people ask what one thing could I do to become a success. I always answer, “work hard”. I think hard work overcomes a lot of bad things that can happen to you as a business owner. And I also feel that there is not any one thing to work hard on, it is a mix of just about everything. Marketing, HR, strategic planning, investment, product development, it all matters.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
South Florida is an amazing place for sure. When folks come into town and they really want to get the flavor of the city, I often tell them they need to get out on the water. In Fort Lauderdale and Miami you have the water taxi where you can hop on and off over a day. Grab some food and explore some of the neighborhoods they stop in. I just had some family down and we had dinner in Wynwood. I love art, food and music in Miami. Just a great vibe. And you can’t leave town without having some Cuban coffee in the morning and other great tropical drinks at night at the Mai Kai.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my partners now and in the past. You cannot build a large company without help. I have been blessed with a supportive family, great investment partners, joint venture partners, employees and agents of Transworld.
