We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Cagnetta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I stated a business out of necessity. When I graduated from Lehigh University it was late summer as my less than stellar education path led to needing to stick around for summer school. Combine that with the economy being soft led me to not being very employable. So with the help of my cousin John I started a cell phone business. It was barely economically successful, but I learned a ton of lessons that I continued to apply as I continued my entrepreneurial career. I have started a few businesses (selling guitars, cell phones, business plan writing) and purchased several others (pasta shop, business brokerages) But buying a business has been way more fruitful for me. I have held a few jobs along the way, but for me there is nothing more exciting than being in business for yourself. And as Transworld grew I needed to leverage others and bring in more capital and expertise to be successful. I have taken on partners and franchised and it has been an incredible journey. My continuing thought process of being in my own business is that I love being able to control my own destiny and work with incredible people.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Transworld offers the professional services that successfully bring buyers and sellers together. Our motto is we “do good deals for good people” Our worldwide network of over 600 professionals makes Transworld the best place to buy or sell a business. There are so many things that sets Transworld apart from others, but it comes down to our people. We are dedicated advocates for entrepreneurs. We are also trusted advisors in our communities that give back! I am so excited for the future of our company as we continue to grow worldwide. Our journey has had its challenges. But working with our people we have overcome downturns in the marketplace and thrived throughout our 40 years! We have learned many lessons along the way. I think the most important is that in order to succeed you need to believe in others. You need to support and empower people and let them be a part of your organization’s success (and failures). What I want to world to know about us is we are here to help and guide entrepreneurs through their journey. We want to be able to share our knowledge and expertise to help others be successful first.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are several go to spots. Grabbing coffee at Gran Forno on Las Olas in the morning (with the owner Leone) is a great start. A day at the beach on Hollywood Broadwalk and Fort Lauderdale are fun times. An airboat ride in Holiday Park through the everglades is spectacular. Dinner at several restaurants like Casa D’Angelo, Cafe Vico, S3, Cafe Del Mar, 17th St Fisheries, Boathouse….always tasty! Some of them have spectacular views! A walk down Las Olas after dinner at night, grabbing a drink at some of the bars and having desert of ice cream and chocolate at Hoffmans is always fun. The a nign finish off with a night cap and stay at the Riverside Hotel.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many folks to name and it starts with my family. My wife Allison, kids Lauren & Rachel. My Mom & Dad. My Father and Mother in law who financed my purchasing of Transworld. My Transworld Family including my shareholders and partners Bill & Ray at United Franchise Group. And the incredible people I have worked with in the community.
