We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Amendola and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is a non-negotiable for entrepreneurs. I basically live by the phrase “no risk, no reward,” because it’s so true. In life, and career, you have to be willing to take risks to change, grow, and improve.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This year brought big changes for my business. When I learned about an innovative company new to the US with a twenty year tenure in Europe, called Olive Tree People, I jumped in with both feet. The brand takes a holistic approach to wellness and skincare, two of my passions. It’s been exciting to help bring this brand to market here in Miami, and we’re seeing rapid growth. As an independent distributor for the brand, I work closely with spas, estheticians and beauty professionals looking to carry this results-driven new line, as well as train and mentor a sales team nationwide. You don’t need any prior sales experience, just a desire to learn (and a passion for wellness or skincare helps, too!). It was definitely a leap of faith to partner with a new company and start from scratch after I had worked for years to establish a successful business with a different beauty brand, but I believe that true growth comes from stepping out of your comfort zone. I made my first big pivot in my career about six years ago, when I left the startup world to become an entrepreneur. The freedom and flexibility that working for myself allows me is totally invaluable, and I am so grateful that I’ve been able to cultivate my work around things that bring me joy. I definitely categorize myself as a multi-passionate entrepreneur, and I love that I get to help clients in a marketing capacity as well as building my own beauty business as an independent consultant. From a marketing standpoint, I help DTC brands and service providers develop marketing initiatives that drive sales and brand growth. Whether nurturing existing shopper relationships through email marketing or acquiring new high-quality customers via social media, I love to work with my clients as a true partner to achieve their goals. I think the need to continue evolving in work and life is the Aquarius in me, and I hope that never changes!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami has evolved so much in the last few years! Some of my favorite things to do with friends visiting are paddle boarding in Sunset Harbor, lazy beach days at Soho House, acai bowls at Pura Vida, a relaxing weekend lunch at Ironside Pizza and probably checking out a BoxBox Car Club event before dinner at Casadonna or Pastis.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been so lucky to have had many wonderful mentors in my life that helped to shape and guide me throughout my career. One book that has been super inspiring to me (and I know so many others!) is Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. My favorite quote from that book is “Daring greatly is being brave and afraid every minute of the day at the exact same time.” I think that captures entrepreneurship so perfectly. It’s a book I pick up again and again, especially when I’m facing a new challenge or making a change.
