We had the good fortune of connecting with Ángela Perez de Lis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ángela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea of starting my own business was always there. For as long as I can remember my parents have always encouraged me to do what I love and to pursue and work hard for what makes me happy and inspires me.
It has always been clear to me that I was going to be creative and that I would dedicate myself to the arts and as I have grown and matured professionally I have realized that the only way to fly free and not be conditioned, was entrepreneurship.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Restlessness is one of the engines that drives my professional development. I consider myself an extremely creative person, my head never rests in that sense, I am always looking around for a purpose or inspiration, it is something natural that happens to me.
I have a high sensitivity to the artistic, no matter how crazy the idea sounds, I always look for a way to integrate it into my projects. I prefer not to limit myself when presenting proposals, however rare they may be.
My perseverance and my passion and belief in me is what has made me here today. Including especially the bad streaks, when you think you can’t continue, when you think it’s being very difficult, when they say no, those are the ones that encourage you to continue.
One of the things that I am most proud of are the values that my parents and sports have instilled in me, such as courage, love, honesty, results through effort, perseverance and belief in oneself. .
The most exciting thing is what is always to come and specifically, the new project that I have in hand. I am currently working on a catalog. I plan to start a custom wallpaper and mural business fully personalized with my creations or whatever people want to capture, in Miami. I am especially excited to undertake in a country different from mine, for which I feel a great attachment.
Years ago, I started designing and creating corporate identity for new businesses or companies that needed to refresh their image, which on the one hand I will continue to serve but This new initiative covers all my years of experience as a creative and allows me to make a living from something that I really enjoy doing. It brings together my great passion for interior design and its a way to merge all my concerns, tools, experiences and experiments in my creations.
Without a doubt, this new project is a step forward in evolution, diversification and personal growth.
For me it has been easy to start, because I have always been clear that my path was art and design and the way to channel it towards the outside world has been in the form of painting, graphic design, illustration. and photography. The combination has been important to be able to offer what I do today.
Watching my father start and develop a business as I grew up has always encouraged me to do it too.
The road is not easy and I have seen it with my father. There is a lot of sacrifice, problems arise and success is clear that you have to earn it and sometimes it takes time to arrive but what overrides all that is desire and perseverance.
My father has instilled in me that hard work always pays off.
The difficult part is making yourself known and getting people to hire your services; among so much digital noise and that not everyone likes what is different, and that starting a business in Spain is becoming extremely difficult. But you can always start with word of mouth, that will always help. We live in a media war over information and visual noise that turns into competition. We have social networks that are a great showcase but I don’t know how lucky you can be with an algorithm. Do not get discouraged and trust your work.
But even with that you always find a way to get ahead. You have to continue despite everything.
One of the things that I value the most and for which I am here today, developing a new wallpaper and mural custom design business, is my eagerness for constant change, I like to be in constant creative movement, that is, to innovate and do different things and try new techniques all the time or from time to time so as not to get stuck. That helps you reinvent yourself and polish yourself. In art, if you don’t have ideas, you’re stuck.
During my studies in fine arts I learned and developed that motivation and inspiration can come from anywhere but you still have to look for it. Full attention, educate the eye and organize the mind. It is very important to travel, see exhibitions, surround yourself with creative people. All of this will help you in your professional and personal goals.
In the end life is made of experiences, live it, do what you like or look for it. It is never too late to learn and surround yourself with people who inspire you and make you laugh.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely go to Mistero01 for pizza more than once that week. Its my favorite pizza in town.
See the sunset of Miami Beach, take a walk along the beach barefoot on the sand eating icecream and then see the atmosphere of Oceans Drive, a classic.
Have breakfast in coconut groove and walk there.
Visit key byscane, go to the lighthouse beach.
Tour coral gables to see colonial spanish homes (i love them)
Go shopping at the dolphin mall and buy some converse and eat at the cheesecake factory.
Listen to live music at ball & chain and possibly have dinner there.
go to the keys
eat in a taqueria
try the cuban sandwiches
take a walk around brickell
go to an event in wynwood market
Go to the rooftop cinema club at sunset
and I would definitely take them to Disney as well but it would be on the next trip
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
credits and recognition goes first to my family. My mom (Ana Isabel), my dad (Jose Daniel) and my little sister (Leire). Then obviously to my closest friends that have always believed in me and my creations and encourage me to keep doing what i do and show it to the world. And last but not least to all those people i come across in my day to day and travelling that i get to share experiences with.
