We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelica, how does your business help the community?
We believe that healthy people lead to healthy families, which lead to a healthy community, and by extension to a better world. When I set out to create Eden Therapy Co. this was my goal. I wanted to help people around me who struggled with trauma, eating disorders, depression and anxiety work through their pain, get to the root, heal and find faith.
I created a bilingual mental health practice where our team of therapists see individuals, couples and families daily. We are also establishing individualized small group sessions with meal support for those that struggle with eating disorders. Beyond the immediate community, we also do presentations at schools and non-profit organizations, and share tools and resources we have created to help people cope with issues even if they cannot come to our office.
We want to bring people ‘back to the table,’where they can connect, belong, be seen, be heard and feel whole again. By healing hearts and shining the light of faith, we are helping to change a child, teen, adult, family, community and a better world.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What Sets Eden Therapy Co apart is our focus on faith, family, love and laughter. Our team is currently comprised of three therapists who work with children, teens, adults, couples and families with a variety of mental health concerns. Leslie, Marian and I are working together to create a healing space where clients feel safe and are able to heal.
Building this practice has been a journey. After working in a Childrens psychiatric unity, a community center and a treatment center for eating disorders, I decided to go out on my own and start a private practice. For several years I was on my own but felt a need to build something where I could share the knowledge I had gained, to help more people and impact the lives of people in my community.
Heres a list of the lessons Ive learned:
1. Have Faith
2. Seek Wisdom
3. Never Give Up
4. Know Your Niche
5. Build Community
What I want the world to know is that healing and recovery are possible.
It takes faith, family, love and laughter and we are here for it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you came to Miami for a weekend, get ready to you are bound to have fun with me! I would start by making sure we spent a day in “the city beautiful”, also known as Coral Gables, where Eden therapy Co. is located. We would start the day with a walk around our local golf course, followed by a delicious breakfast at Bacchour. This would be followed by a visit to the historic Biltmore Hotel for a massage, and lunch by the iconic pool where TV’s Tarzan used to swim. For dinner we would the head to Miracle Mile to eat at Doc B’s, one of my favorite restaurants, after a mani-pedi at Gloss.
Saturday we would venture into greater Miami, starting by watching the sunrise on Miami Beach. On the way back we can stop and by the Wynwood Walls to see some local art. For brunch we would head to the Rusty Pelican, which has the best view of the Miami skyline. For lunch we could head to 8th street (Calle Ocho) to experience Cuban culture at Domino Park, and have ice cream at AZUCAR. No trip to Miami is ever complete without a meal at Versailles the legendary restaurant. Finally, you would shower, change and head to Hotel Faena to eat Chef Mallmann’s signature dishes at Los Fuegos.
Before you leave on Sunday, I’d invite you to one of our local churches for an infusion of faith. Then we would go to the Red Rooster in Overtown, where they have a Gospel Brunch, before we said goodbye and headed to the airport.
It’s a lot to pack in one weekend, but you will be able to say you took a bite out of the 305.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s hard to pick one person or group because you can only be as good as the community that surrounds you. However, If I had to pick, I would say everything starts with God. Beyond that Id like to shout out my family, including my 95 year old Grandma. The people I am blessed to work with every day, Leslie and Marian, my friends and all the talented community partners with whom I collaborate.
