We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Pelaez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica, what role has risk played in your life or career?

If there’s one thing I live by is “take the risk.” It is my new life motto. If I did not take a chance on pursing my passion — makeup, I would still be a teacher and working a 9-5 job, which then would leave me with getting home late and barely having time with my son. I know it’s much easier said than done, and don’t get me wrong it’s scary. I’ve lost sleep over fear of not being too sure about decisions or listening to other people and their opinions. But truly with faith, dedication, and motivation, anything is possible. Looking back, if I chose to play it safe, I wouldn’t understand the meaning of truly loving what I do for living. Now that I know this feeling in life, I feel that I owe it to others to motivate them to truly take the risk and if you love it, it will always be great!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never truly considered myself as an “artist” till lately when I truly started to believe in myself as well as in my work. I think what set myself apart from others is how much tranquility it brings me. The minute a client walks into my studio, I have already envisioned how beautiful my work will look on them. I always remind clients that they are my beautiful canvas without their face it wouldn’t be possible. One of the many lessons I’ve learned in this industry is to not take everyone’s opinions to heart. Not everyone wants to see you win. If you feel the energy isn’t right at the moment, especially when speaking about your businesses leave! Leave when you feel people don’t have good intentions for you. You’ll feel it, I’ve learned to trust the gut always!
One thing I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’ve worked and will continue to work to always better myself and my work. I love what I do and I always want to deliver my best work. I love seeing others happy. I want my clients to know how thankful I am that they picked me! I’m very aware of how many other amazing artist there are in Miami! So when my clients pick me, the amount of gratitude I feel in my heart is unexplainable!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Na

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first love to dedicate this to my husband John. He truly motivates me everyday to be my highest self. John was the reason I truly took the leap, he saw something I didn’t! When I had any doubts he would remind me that he was always in my corner if anything went south. If it wasn’t for him, I don’t think I would be in this position I’m in. I truly believe with amazing people around who truly believe in you, anything is possible. Also, I would love to show my best friend Marialys a shout-out. She’s also a makeup artist. She really showed me the way in this industry. Whenever I need her she’s there! I will forever be grateful for my friend Marialys!
Lastly,My family! I’m so thankful for their support in all of this. Whenever I have doubts about my work I immediately send it over to my sisters and the remind me how “bomb the makeup looks” or simply my mom reposting all my work on her social media! It’s truly the little things that means so much to me. My in-laws never say no when it comes to watching my son so I can work a wedding. It truly takes a village. There are so many people I can take my time to thank but truly it would take up the entire article. I love the people I surround myself with and it’s truly because they support me and my work. With that being said I love you all and with the heaviest heart, thank you!
