We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Lassman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my personal success is simply perspective. Over the years, I’ve collected life experiences that have shifted my frame of mind time and time again. Many of those experiences have been challenging, difficult, sometimes joyful and oftentimes paralyzing. After enough of these moments, you learn to adapt your way of thinking to overcome whatever the roadblock is. Mental strength really knows no bounds and when it comes to my endeavors for success, I have utilized it to help overcome a variety of issues.

When I find myself at a difficult crossroads or in a challenging situation I have come up with active tools to show myself the lessons in the moment, ultimately changing my perspective.. It’s taken years for me to be grateful for the challenges and the pursuit of a different path but it is a major reason for where I am in life. Reframing the hard times to lessons of gratitude and growth has helped me ensure that I can make a better choice the next time I face a tough situation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a broadcast meteorologist at NBC6 in Miami where I’ve been forecasting weather and telling environmental stories for the past six years. This career has been beyond rewarding, offering me opportunities to connect with people, keep the community safe and share my love for the environment. Throughout my meteorology career, I have learned numerous lessons that helped me move forward. Of those lessons, one specific lesson that I read somewhere once sticks out. That lesson is…when you walk into a room believe you belong there.

This seems like a simple lesson but as a female in a historically male dominated industry, it is so easy to fall into the pattern of second guessing your qualifications and abilities. It took me years to put this into practice but now, no matter the situation, when I cross the threshold of that door, I am telling myself I am right where I belong.. even if no one else in the room agrees.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend, Brittany, was visiting Miami for a week I would take her to all my favorite spots! We would kick off the morning with a workout from my favorite trainer, Marco at Barry’s. After that we would stroll through the design district, window shop at Alo before we head to OTL for a coffee and yummy breakfast burrito. We would be sure to spend the afternoon by the pool at The Standard, sipping rose and catching up on life. For dinner we would eat everything on the menu at KYU before finishing the night at The Sylvester. The rest of the week would be more of the same but I’d be sure to show off the food & drinks at Pura Vida, Makoto, Mandolin, Old Greg’s Pizza and Watr at the 1Hotel. Plus, we would have to rent a boat and show her what a day in the life is like from Biscayne Bay!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been beyond blessed to have an incredible support system full of family and friends for as long as I can remember but there really is one person who I owe it all to. I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Elizabeth Lassman. I will simply never be able to repay her for all she has done to give me a beautiful life full of opportunities. Not only has she cheered me on every step of the way but she has advocated for me, taught me important lessons, pushed me out of my comfort zone and made major sacrifices in the name of my happiness. She truly is incredible beyond words and a one of a kind mom that deserves all the credit for the woman I’ve become.
