We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Tremmaglia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Continued work ethic. I think it’s easy to give up early in any pursuit to early . I believe. it’s hard to continue when you want to see immediate results. I think you do need an audience to keep you going, but you must love what you do whole heartedly .
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is a direct reflection of my experiences either with myself or with others. I have approached art-making using media. ( charcoal and paint ). in a unique, original language connecting land and body. I think many of us turn to the land to reflect.
My work offers formal and textural qualities that both confound and intrigue, inviting the viewer to upend assumptions, step closer, and consider the renderings in new ways. I challenge the conventions of art making in two-dimensional works that appear sculptural, and with hand-rendered forms that may be initially mistaken for photographs or digital manipulation.
My works speak to the contradiction between rough stone and smooth flesh as symbolic of relationships (with the self or with others) creating tension between representation and abstraction — one containing both stark, unknowable shapes and the refuge of an imagined landscape. Free of social or gender constructs and contemporary references, my work seeks to heighten consciousness through timelessness.
In a short time, I am proud to have introduced my work by collaborating with Steidel Contemporary. in some highly regarded shows in the last couple of years, Art Palm Beach and Palm Beach Modern and Contemporary. I do have a slotted show in Miami the start of 2024.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LoLa 41 Palm Beach for food and I am a drink and cocktail lover so I stopped in at Spazio’s and enjoyed their drinks. Aside from that you can always find me at the beach when visiting – if I can’t find a mountain bike trail similar to back home.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents and friends, along with the galleries, patrons that support my work. Steidel Contemporary, Oil Art Advisory , The Artling Online gallery and Saatchi Art.
