We had the good fortune of connecting with Arianna Lint and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arianna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business because I was tired of the rejection I kept facing being a Translatina. Ever since my childhood my family always told me that I would be a big public figure, but after my transition that encouragement diminished as if transitioning meant I lost all my talent. As a former lawyer in Peru it was instilled that lawyers should be fearless. So I woke up one day and decided to be just that, fearless. I took control of my destiny and just made it happen working with the department of health and just growing my business to what it is now, Arianna’s Center. Where we’ve helped thousands of Transgender individuals with healthcare, housing, and leadership.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nothing in life is easy especially being translatina however, when you go against the most difficult times they are the most enjoyable once accomplished. I didn’t have a choice but to overcome challenges because I had a dream, and I lived in The United States where we have the privilege to go after our dreams no matter what. I was raised with core values like, work hard for what you want and you will earn it. So that’s what I did I worked hard. I had to learn english words I’ve never heard before like “Budget” and “Board member.” I just kept my focus on my dream and with the support of those around me I made it happen. All the lessons that I’ve learned all came from making mistakes. One thing that I had to learn is that because I have become a public figure in the transgender community, people label me as a “Role-model” but I’m not a role-model. Role-model’s don’t make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. I live a very REAL life just like anyone else. So I don’t want to be considered a role-model but a REAL-model.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1 I would take them to Biscayne Blvd, as the Peruvian that I am I would take them to eat at Ceviche 105 and we’d close out the night in Wynwood.
Day 2 we would go to the Hard Rock Cafe, then the Dolphins stadium, and of course take them to the beach.
Day 3 I would show them the neighborhoods which I would love to live like Coral Gables and Brickle. So much culture, to share.
Day 4 The Penbrook shopping center where there is so many good food places the Cuban spot there is really good.
Day 5 I would then take them to classic miami, Calle 8 where we’d have real Cuban coffee and cuisine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a transgender woman, my first shoutout would have to be to God and my family. Working with thousands of other transgender people who’s families rejected them I can not over-see the faith and support my family has had in and for me. Secondly my mentors, on the days that I felt alone because entrepreneurship can be a lonely road I had people like Bamby Salsedo, Cecilia Chung, and Ruby Corrado they always helped me keep my eye on the big picture. Finally my whole staff at Arianna’s Center, without them this machine wouldn’t run. We may not always see eye to eye but the love is always there and the mission is always accomplished. We have built a business that is the go-to for hiring transgenders and that is a blessing.
