We had the good fortune of connecting with Arjanae Harrell-Watts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arjanae, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business has always been finding something I love to do so that I can work for myself & be my own boss. I’ want to show young women that we all have a gift from God & when you find out what that is take full advantage of it. Never limit yourself or let people discourage you. Take risks , be open minded , surround yourself with people that are not afraid to pour positive things into you , speak positivity over yourself & your business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My mom has been a hairstylist since before I was born. I grew up watching her do hair from a baby to an adult. At first I didn’t want to do hair because I wanted to do something different. In 2018 was my first investment and first step on becoming my own boss. I took a lash course , which you learn how to properly apply individual lash extensions, removing them and so on and so forth. After I took that lash course I was still feeling uneasy because it was harder than I thought. I practiced for about a month and it was still hard for me so I gave up. The next six months I was working at a call center , It was a good job but it wasn’t for me & I knew that was not what I was suppose to be doing the rest of my life. One night I was up and couldn’t sleep thinking about this lash course I just took 6 months ago & was about to let it go to waste. While I was up I went on YouTube & watched online lash videos all night & started practicing on my mannequin. I started to feel like I was getting a hang of it but I was still feeling discouraged for some reason. A few weeks went by & I was practicing everyday after work. I then ask one of my aunts would I be able to practice on them so that I can learn. That was one of the best decisions I made. I practiced on her & got the hang of it so fast. Once I felt comfortable enough to practice on others I wrote a post on my social media for models. So many people were willing to let me practice on them without any hesitation. After I took a few models I then started taking more people for tips, once I felt like I was good enough I then started doing clients for $35-$45 for any set of lashes at my grandmothers house. At this time I’m still working at my job and doing this after work and on my days off. During this time I started realizing these people were coming back and giving me good feedback. Fast forward 2 months later I was working at a beauty bar & still working at my job. This was a good opportunity for me not only was I able go to gain clientele I was able to prefect my craft and get my name out there a little more. I quit my job at the call center & started working full time at the beauty bar. A few months later I got a call back from a great job that I had applied for and took that opportunity. I then started there full time & started back taking clients at my grandmothers house. I was doing this for about a year. Another opportunity presented itself to work in another Solon. At this point I have clientele & I felt like this is what I’m suppose to be doing. I quit that job and continued lashing full time. Worker in that salon for a few months. After that I made a decision that I wanted to get my own salon. I turned a room in my house into my work room and started working there for almost a year. I then started looking at different salon / suites for rent, I was able to open my first salon/suite in 2021, doing lashes , hair , selling hair growth oil & so on. I worked there for about 7 months. And now I’m looking to expand into a bigger space with a good team. No of this cane easy , it was extremely hard but I never gave up. When you want better for yourself you have to keep going no matter what , be consistent, work hard & keep pushing. I got where I am today by being consistent, doing what others are afraid to do & taking risks. It was not easy but I have progressed tremendously. There were many challenges but I prayed daily and worked hard for everything. One lesson that I’ve learned in this business is that everyone will not see your vision abs everyone will not always be happy for you , take that and turn it into motivation to keep going hard and being great. I am still not where I want to be I have days where I want to give up but I keep pushing. You can do whatever you put your mind too , speak positive over yourself , people that you are surround by and your business. Keep God first in everything that you do. Never feel like you are better than anyone , stay humble , stay grounded and stay dedicated. I want the world to know that Nuna B Beauty will be world wide one day in different cities and states followed with a great experience. Never limit yourself on what you are capable of doing . Take every negative and turn it into a positive. Be kind , be respectful & most importantly stand on business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite things to do is eat lol. I love trying new restaurants. I would suggest a seafood spot because I love seafood lol. After eating ii would do a fun activity like bowling , skating or go to the beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to thank my clients & everyone that has been supporting me from the beginning . when I’m feeling discouraged or feeling like I’m not where I want to be , they are always reminding me in so many ways that I’m doing the right thing. I have gone on my social media & have seen my name & business tagged for people to try my services and mostly from people who have never came to me lol. I go to places and people I’ve never met or seen before know who I am and what I do. That just goes to show how much word of mouth works .. Also reading my reviews on my business page after I’ve completed a service , it amazes me how just being myself , being professional, having a clean environment keeps my customers coming back. So I have to thank them for keeping me motivated to continue doing what I’m doing and never giving up.
