We had the good fortune of connecting with Arlene Then and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arlene, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is a part of life. We can’t progress without taking them and im confident, it as safe to say that we can’t achieve anything we dream of without it being part of the journey. Risk taking has become such a fundamental and indespensible factor in my life , i can’t see myself living without it. Its opened doors for me and has led me into key moments that have changed the course of my career. Stepping out of your comfort zone going that event , or speaking to that intimidating person or even the person that looks like the “nobody” and ends up connecting you with the most amazing people and resources. It is very easy to stay within your shell especially living in Miami. This city has a funny way of kicking people down and many people shy away from exploring other avenues and taking a chance on themselves. But again, risk is the only factor that will get you to the places you dream of.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
People make the world go round. Human beings are the only species on earth that need constant interaction from other humans. Wether you consider yourself a introvert or an extrovert it doesn’t matter. We need people in our lives! which brings me to why i chose to be in my current field as a Real estate Agent. I grew up working in supermarkets since i could literally talk! I was at the cash register helping people ring up their food items since i was 5! My father owned multiple supermarkets all throughout New York city and eventually in several parts of Miami, and so i was always in the customer service world. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting peoples needs. Whatever they needed help or guidance in making food selection or specials, there i was offering my advice. So, it wasn’t a surprise to me when i ended up in Property management. I was a leasing professional and eventually worked my way up as Leasing manager with one of the greatest companies in the nation. Man i loved that role! Finding people their home. Their safe place, where memories would be created. Helping them choose the best apartment size for their family. Whether that was a newly engaged couple, families seeking asylum from their country, or people just wanting a fresh start. It always kept me on my toes , listening to their stories and connecting with them. People will forget what you said, what you did for them and even how you did it but they will never forget how you made them feel. I pride myself in ensuring everyone feels seen and heard, and that they are making the best decision for where they currently stand. As a real estate agent it is our duty to the public to be as honest, genuine, understanding and diligent with every person that crosses our paths.

And i must say that working with he public you run one of the greatest risk as a human being. Letting your heart grow cold. . I believe that’s been my greatest challenge throughout the years and if im quiet honest it still is. When you see, hear and experience first hand how cruel this world can be, our natural response is to shut down, place strong boundries and reject everyone you might feel as a threat. But life is about the small decisions you make everyday. Those small choices pile up and will eventually determine your life outcome. To choose to say yes over and over again regardless of what you’ve seen, heard or experienced. Knowing that you are making a difference in peoples lives!

I want the world to know they can trust again! and that there are genuine people out there who are willing to go to bat for them to ensure they are getting the best deal! the best home! the best of the best!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Midtown! Wynwood! Im an experience type of gal. All you need is good friends and great drinks! Im a New York city girl living in Miami so these places remind me the most of home! The Rooftops, outside Bars, good music good, vibes is all i need to show a good time! DOYA Restaurant in Wynwood has been my favorite place to go to the last 2 months. Their drink menu is out of this world. They have mixologist in the restaurant which if you know anything about Mixologist, your tongue pallet is about to go to a whole new dimension!

Also, I’ve been blessed to have great friend who love to do hands on activities so things like pottery class and candle making classes in coral gables have been enjoyable!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My number one supporter My mom! She really is the person i want to shout out. When i didn’t have the strength or courage to believe in myself she stepped in and carried me!
