Meet Ashanei Christian | Director and Co-Founder of DZ Studios

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashanei Christian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashanei, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is that i believe its about relationships. Building meaningful and long lasting relationships with your clients. Relating to them and understanding their needs and make it your own. Be as passionate as them, even more passionate. Let them know you believe in their vision maybe even more than they do and creating bonds between them that will eventually will feel like a family.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
DZ Studios, based in Kingston, Jamaica, was established in 2014 by Ashanei Christian and Kenny Plummer. We efficiently offers quality services in motion and graphic design, photography, creative direction and video production. We successfully built a clientele, over the past 7 years, working with some of Jamaica’s most highly ranked creatives, artistes including Protoje and Buju Banton and companies such as Dream Entertainment and Shenseea’s Romeich Entertainment as well as International giants such as Redbull, Major Lazer, Damion Marley and Estelle.

What sets us apart from others i believe would be that we focus heavily on quality. we think majority “outside of the box” and take heavy calculated risks to try and maximize our efforts and to bring the best possible vision to life even when we are faced with limited resources. We believe that once we are involved and our logo will be displayed we have to represent that brand and that project as if its our own, because we truly believe it is our own lol.

We are most proud of where we came from versus where we are now today, taking the brand from a mere idea to the well recognized brand that it is now and the people and groups and organizations we have worked with and that we helped build there brand in some ways. We are also excited about the new places and opportunities that it will take us and bring forth. We have major dreams with working with more international clients such as Kanye West is one of them, Kenny likes Chris brown so definitely him and other companies such as adidas. a few opportunities has shed light where these were possible but life said ” not just yet ” lol so we are waiting.

DZ studios came about through pure idleness, we were very much entertained by Chromatic’s Fast Life, an entertainment series in Jamaica created by Creep Chromatic and Niko Chromatic and we were very fascinated by it. We wanted to be like them in some sense. That series motivated us to do something different. We sorta had the passion for the arts in creating designs so we took that route. While developing the name and branding, we did a design and coincidentally (i call it Gods work lol) Creep Chromatic saw it, loved it and reposted it and we build a momentum from there. Other persons saw our work and started compare it to another renowned company here in Jamaica and that was quite a flattering compliment as they were established and known to be on top. One thing lead to the other, Dream weekend team reached out to us as well as JahCures and Agent Sasco team for commissioned work and in a very short time things began to take off. From there we started working with very big names and i believe apart of the success was that we were very humble and understood the work and not the hype. Fast forward now and we are working with the very same persons we idolized in a sense growing up.

Many lessons were taught and many learned throughout the journey, but one of the most important was be humble, believe everything will work out and have faith in God. Trust the process and what is meant for you will always be for you.

What i want the world to know about the brand is that you can start from anywhere, doesnt matter where. We both( Kenny and I) came from humbling backgrounds and we built a stable foundation for ourselves. Doesnt matter who you are or where you are from you can become anything you want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
lol Well i love views and nature and i hope they do too. So id definitely bring them to where i currently live. It overlooks the city of Kingston in a picturesque landscape of mountains and crazy city lights when its night time. Persons tend to be mesmerized by it when they visit. Literally everyone, i too when i first moved there.

This is not in order but lol a hike though the Blue Mountains, Hollywell. Very cold, so bring a sweater then a great lunch at this restaurant down the road from there, Eits Cafe, that also has a crazy view of mountains and i believe the ocean dont remember but great food. Then in the night, drinks and dinner at AC Hotel, or somewhere not too noisy so yo can actually enjoy your meal and drinks. Then a road trip outside the city to the beach, sun bathing and sanding.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Lol Id say there are quite a few shoutouts to mention here, But the one thing that has been most consistent on this journey for me and i would say its God. I owe my entire life and success to him and id honestly wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for him. Amen! lol But my close friends has played a major part, they supported me a-lot along this way and believed in me and encourages me and also hypes me up whenever i feel like I’m not worthy or any good. So Thank God for them. There isn’t one specific person per say but Shoutout to my business partner Kenny, he has also been apart of this crazy ride.
