We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Adversities are not design by life to make us give up but instead it teaches us to be vigilant. As human is natural for us to fear of what may come. We factor all details in our life that can affect our dreams and we rationalize what we think is best for us, our family, our business, and so on. life can only be driven by faith or fear. When your life is driven by fear that is the least moment you should give up because fear is the only thing keeping you away from your blessings. This years in my struggles, in my doubts, and fears I’ve come to learn that when we keep going we are living but when we give up on things because it becomes a challenge that is when we truly die to who we are destined to be. So how do you know when to give up when you have fully done all you can without fear and even though things come to an end you can say you gave it all.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an esthetician your job is to observe the elegance of your client’s skin. Skin is the only organ in our body that we can take care of from the outside within. It’s designed to suit each individual perfectly and provide protection. Your skin is the best outfit you can wear and it is my job to ensure you look good in it. Yet we struggle with acknowledging the uniqueness of our skin. Some of us would do anything to have a new skin or the skin of someone else. The truth is we don’t truly give the time to know ourselves and to love the beauty of our skin. This is why i’m passionate about skin care. Skin tells me your story of where you’ve been, what you do, what scars you have, and how health is. Learning about your skin will guide you into a journey of self love. Being an esthetician I’ve learned how many people struggle with confidence. The job of an esthetician is not a luxurious room to make you pretty, No my job is transforming and healing from above within. I use my hands to care for your skin, I use my heart to understand your challenges, pains, and gratitudes. I use my eyes to see and remind you of the beauty you are. I use my voice for wisdom and guidance in taking care of you. I use my talent to open a door that is the best version of who you are. This career is not for everyone it requires a lot of attention, a lot of learning, and unfolding.
When I started this career I was 19 and I wasn’t sure it was what I wanted to do but I definitely knew it had it’s purpose. This career is not easy you work with many people and some can really challenge you but none the less this career offers so much insight of what truly your skin does. I started off by simply talking about skin care and how important it is to maintain your skin especially those with acne like me. I can see the challenges many clients face with acne and I wanted to create an environment where we can feel safe to talk about it. Each client is a unique skin and requires a lot of learning to ensure we are providing the proper care.
Mercy for My Skin is our brand. We decided to create a very friendly chill environment to make clients feel right at home. We also wanted to give the opportunity to create a place for everyone who want to treat their skin at a modest price. Self- Care should not be expensive and should be for everyone. Our place wasn’t only designed for our clients but also to encourage other women to start their business. Here we work with each other rather for each other. We believe in a growing community of women empowerment and support all business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so many beautiful place to visit in Miami, going brunching is one of my favorite things to do. Coconut grove Green Street would be one of my favorite spot to visit because their food is great and walking around to the small shops can be exciting. Kennedy park Definitely would be nice park to visit for ACE’S lemonade and hot dog follow by a nice walk by the water. Night time has so much to offer I love visiting Wynwood because not only do they have great restaurant but appreciate the street artists such Atomic, Ahole, Toysinvades, and see_streetz. Night time go to restaurant would be the Spotted Gallo nicaraguan cuisine restaurant. its such a relax atmosphere and great food,
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I want to thank God for always encouraging me to be a light to this world. Everything I do and am is because of my belief in him. I want to thank My mother for teaching me all of the esthetician industry. I want o thank all the girls at the spa for encouraging one another in growing our business. I want to thank all the clients that support us in our business because we wouldn’t be anything without them.
