We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Rutherford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
Honestly I do not have a “budget”. I know I always spend way less than I make. But when I was 1-2 years into the business I read a quote somewhere and it said “Stop penny pinching and trying to save $100 per week at Starbucks, instead figure out how to make more money so you never have to budget again”.

That hit home for me when I first read it. I am always focused on new revenue coming in because money solves problems. If there is a cash flow problem, personnel problem, shipping problem, whatever it is… if you have huge amounts of cash coming in you can solve any problem!

One other thing on finances that I always play games with in my head is if I want something new in my life (new house, new car, new toy, etc) I always ask myself “How can I get someone else to pay for this?”

What this really means is, what new businesses can I create or what sources of passive income can I drum up that will cover the expenses for whatever I want. I bought a Rolls Royce Wraith, my dream car, but before I did that I started a new business and made $100,000 profit in it and also bought 8 more rental properties so that the income from the rentals covered the expenses on the car.

Everything in my life I try to get someone else to pay for it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I had a dream as a 19 year old to be a real estate investor and thought I was going to get rich over night. I bought my first rental at 20 years old and had about $30,000 saved to my name at that point and put it all into that property and I was broke again.

I needed to make moment change this to “MONEY” faster. I heard an ad on the radio that talked about how someone could teach me how to flip houses. I went to the three day meet up and joined their mentorship program for $25K at the age of 21 (I pulled out new credit cards and maxed them out to join the program)

16 months later I finally flipped my first house and made $107,000 in net profit on my first deal. Took all of that money and dumped it back into the business which has grown to a portfolio of almost $10,000,000 in rental properties and have flipped hundreds and hundreds of houses along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in South Florida and the food here is amazing! We would rent a boat for one of the day and explore the waters one day, would have to eat at two amazing Italian places Cafe Martorano and Noodle Panini. Would probably head down to Miami and Brickel as well as it is a VERY vibrant city that is always busy and go to a few roof top bars to enjoy the scenery and experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have always been a believer since day one in my education and spend upwards of $100,000 on mentorships and masterminds every year.

The DM Family has been an amazing mastermind I have been in for the last few years that has helped me change my mindset and grow!
