We had the good fortune of connecting with Autumn Markley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Autumn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have always been a very busy workaholic. I believe part of my success today has been established by all the long hours and hard work I have put in over the years. If you have a dream and set goals you have to work hard and love what you do to achieve success. I love what I do and for many years I would be the first one in the door of the salon and the last one leaving. I took 2-3 clients before anyone else showed up for work. I realized those few extra hours set me apart from the others and my clients really appreciated me taking the time to accommodate them and through time I was able to build beautiful relationships with clients that have followed me through my career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always had a passion for hair extensions. As soon as I was able to take a class I did and over the years I have taken several classes. Certified with some of the best brands in the industry great lengths, Bellami and IBE to name a few. I learned early on a lot of stylists say they do extensions but the ones that are passionate about it. Invest in themselves and get certified. Over the years I have developed a way to do extensions that create a beautiful organic look and also achieve it in a very timely manor. I know everyone lives a busy life and time is money. So my clients are usually in and out of the salon in less then 3 hours. I love the transformation I can create for someone and how confident they feel when they walk out the door. With over 18 years of experience I’ve seen it all I know how to achieve a look for someone with lifestyle, goals and budget all in mind. This has been years in the making. I have spent years making mistakes and learning from them. I have tried all kinds of hair from all over the world. I know now after so many situations that when I see my client smile at the end it’s all worth it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Miami it has so many different options. I love spending the afternoon in little Havana having the most amazing empanadas and Cuban coffee so I would start there. Then I would take them to wynwood and walk around and see the wynwood walls. I love to see all the art and talent in the city. My favorite rooftop bar in the city is Sugar and then I would finish with dinner at Joia or the deck at island gardens over looking the city at night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom has always been a huge support. She always lended me a listening ear through the years and all the challenges. My mom learned early on I wasn’t looking for a answer that I was going to always do what I wanted to do and I was going to learn from the outcome. I love her for that. It was never I think you should moments. She was always there to bounce ideas off of and someone to let me go on about the hard times and the good. She is my number one support system. I also know I couldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t meant my mentor Hollis. He was my true teacher. He made me the stylist I am today with everything he taught me.
