Meet Ayrsto | Recording Artist, Producer, Engineer, A&R Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ayrsto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ayrsto, why did you pursue a creative career?

The more I embraced my creative side, the more I evolved as a person.

The more I strengthened my artistry, the more I grew as an individual.

To me, a main goal in life is to grow as an individual and evolve as a person.

So the choice to pursue was never really a choice at all, as it was a need..

Passion is everything, we’re only here for so long.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My music intertwines a fusion between modern commercial music with a slight Caribbean touch. Growing up in a Caribbean home and being exposed to a musically inclined environment with a wide array of genres being enjoyed on a regular, as well as family members being performers, singers, and musicians, enabled me to recognize and harness distinctive attributes that contributed to my talents and mindset on a whole.

Knowing this was my profession, I enrolled and graduated from college of the Recording Arts.

With my ability to write, record, engineer and produce my own music throughout the years in this industry I’ve had the privilege to work with many talented and dedicated artists and producers on projects all around the world.

I find to be able to connect and resonate with another is precious. To assist in the listener a experience in a positive and contributing manner that can help them overcome and put forth courage, confidence, and a higher state of well being is of prime importance for my self and music.

As the head of A&R at Funktasy Records, I have a unique opportunity to use my skills to elevate other talented Artists.
Funktasy, being one of Canada’s largest independent record labels, sets its self apart from others by blending a variety commercial and underground genres as it strives to distribute and publish music that evolves both the dance and the hiphop culture.

Anytime one is to embrace a road less travelled adversity is soon to follow; but through commitment and gratitude for all that comes forth, the added strength in will power and fortitude becomes the upmost importance towards overcoming any challenge.
No two paths are the same, be true to yourself and your brand…

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I live just outside of the beautiful metropolis of Toronto, Ontario,Canada called the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Around the Greater Toronto Area during different seasons there are many tourists attractions that are well publicized. Yearly events that are well established and are staples to our city of Toronto are the CNE, The Toronto Caribbean Carnival and Toronto Jazz festival. All great and enjoyable experiences for both locals and travellers alike.

Going the scenic route, there are an array of breathe taking intimate locations. Great for observing what we have native to our region and enjoying nature. Some to mention are of course, one of the wonders of the world , Niagara Falls.
Not far out of Toronto, a beautiful nature walk can be had through The Cuves and slopes of Mono Hills, and for an island vibe during the right season, flowerpot Island located in the Bruce Peninsula.
All fanatic spots truly showing the remarkable beauty our area has to offer.

Hot spots around the area for food that I recommend are, Knockout chicken, premium place for delicious fried chicken.
For something quick, Osmow’s Shawarmas.
And for a well tuned Caribbean meal,
Benab Guyanese/Chinese restaurant .
Like all great meals, they add to the overall experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

As an artist and an entrepreneur , adversity’s common ground. Throughout my experiences I’ve rendered appreciation for many.

Affirmations from great literature such as the Tao Te Ching , Sun Tzu Art Of War and the Bhagavad Gita are a few which allowed me to excel, look within and strengthen.
High morals and priceless values established by my parents also contributed heavily towards my resiliency as a person and proficiency in my art.

Having said that, I find experience is the greatest teacher and if everything happens for a reason, then my shout out is to the universe.
I’m thankful for all the people it has brought in and grateful for the individuals that have influenced my life and made me better for having been in it.
