We had the good fortune of connecting with Baby Kaely and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Baby, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
To be honest for a long time I was actually confused on where I was from. When I was younger and people would ask me that question I would kinda hesitate to answer. I was born in Newark, New Jersey in 2005 but I only lived there for one year. My parents didn’t want to continue raising us in the city so we moved to Florida, and that’s where Baby Kaely was born. I started recording music when I was five. By the time I was seven I was already signed to a major label based in Los Angeles, California. We would travel back and fourth pretty often. We loved it, we enjoyed the weather, the people, and especially the food. So eventually we made the decision to move here in 2014. That’s why when people would ask me where I was from, I didn’t really know how to answer. I lived in three cities by the time I was eight. My mom always says, where ever you attend high school is where you’re from. So with that being said, I spent the younger years of my life on the East Coast. Then completed middle school here and now I’m attending High school. So its safe to say that Los Angeles, California is my my home! I grew up in a black and brown household. Being raised by two strong, powerful, and brave human beings taught me to deal with diversity on a regular basis. I was raised to have a strong back bone and to not allow peoples opinions to effect me. My parents are my role models and have been my whole life. I always looked up to them. Watching my parents deal with negativity in a positive way, taught me how to handle the internet and deal with all the hate. I remember them reading me hate comments at the age of five, and they would say “everyone’s not gonna like you! Get used to it”. It made me very strong at such a young age. They never sugar coated anything and I thank them for that. My parents continue to teach me so many life lessons that I’ll carry with me forever. I will pass those same lessons down to my kids one day. I rap about positive things in my music because I was raised around positivity. The word “Can’t” was never allowed in my house. I was always pushed to be better then I was yesterday. It didn’t matter if it was school, music, behavior or even exercising. Exercising has always been a normal thing in my house. I was taught that it teaches mental toughness. I learned early that your mind could be a road block and get in the way of your success if you let it. I remember having to do some of the stupidest exercises just to be taught mind control. That is the type of household that I was raised in. I grew up around adults most of the time. So Playgrounds and games were never really my thing. I always wanted to do what the “big people” were doing. I was Constantly in studios where I was the only kid. I would just hang out with the grown ups. Most of them were celebrities coming in and out and I thought it was normal. I didn’t realize that riding scooters with Ludacris and hanging out with Rihanna wasn’t the typical day to day for a nine year old. So me hanging out at the playground with normal kids kinda felt weird to me strangely. My life was always different from other kids my age and I loved it. I basically got addicted to it and wanted more and more. So I worked hard just like the older artist I watched daily. I feel like I grew up with a certain level of maturity because of it. I wanted to fit in with the other artists. I wanted to be respected and looked at just like one of them. so I tried my best to act more mature around them. looking back on it, I think that’s one of the reasons why I fit right in. I was very young but they always took me seriously. Even back then I considered myself a big time artist. It was just a mental thing and the way I was raised. Im sixteen now and I’ve dedicated the majority of my life to music. Im consistently working on my craft, growing and trying to become a better person every single day. I thank my upbringing for that. It has everything to do with who I am now, and who Ive yet to become.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, my art is called Hip Hop and I consider it my sport! While other kids my age were playing actual sports, I was developing my craft in music. I like to think that music found me! at least thats how I feel. It chose me in more ways than one. It came to me very easily and then other pieces started connecting. Ive been making music ever since I was five years old. So I have lots of experience when it comes to recording and performing. Im only sixteen, and to have over ten years of experience in anything just sounds crazy to me. I think that is definitely something that sets me apart from others. The only challenges that I ever faced were personal. Learning how to deal with people from all over the world and hearing different opinions. While at the same time making sure I stay grounded, but confident in myself. Throughout this process I’ve learned most importantly that you can become whatever it is you dream of. All you have to do is put in the work and have patience! Now those two factors are extremely hard for the majority of people though. Ive been practicing those things my whole life so I’m used to it. I like to think of myself as a smart, strong and confident growing artist. I want to share great music full of positivity with the entire world. Im going to show the people, but most importantly my peers that you can do anything you set your mind to. Im just a girl that wanted something and went after it! Since I started I’ve never looked back. Im looking forward to tomorrow. Im blessed to be able to keep sharing my gifts to the world!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Los Angeles, California! sometimes just saying that is enough in itself (lol). Its the only place that I know where I can layout on the beach in morning, then go snow boarding at night. There is just so much to do here, can’t possibly get it done in a week. However, where definitely gonna shop on Melrose/ Fairfax Avenue first! just to get the week started. They have some of the best clothing and sneaker boutiques in the country. People travel from all over the world to shop there. The food in LA is also Bomb! you can get just about anything your heart desires! So we are going to do lots of eating at multiple spots around the city. Im also blessed enough have friends in the entertainment business like me. So there would be lots of fun studio sessions and possibly being on set watching a TV show being created. Would definitely try to squeeze in some mani-pedi time but more than likely it wouldn’t all happen within a week. Los Angeles is just a great place to visit. Especially if you have people that already live here and can take you around the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to give a huge shout out to my parents. Without them I would not be where I am today! They have always supported me from day one. Never made me feel like my dreams were silly or too far out of reach. They helped me believe that any and everything is possible. I also want to give a shout out to my Manager/mentor CJ. He came into my life at a very young age and is actually the person that introduced me to music! He has been my everything since day one! So my shout outs go to my parents and CJ, and every artist that came before me and paved the way.
