We had the good fortune of connecting with Barnabas Macaulay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barnabas, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to embark on this journey of art because my love for it and the power art wields in starting conversations as regards the direction of individuals and a society as a whole. Art is a mirror as well as a transformative tool in our experiences.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create realism and surrealism type of art. My current artistic goal of to forster the intra-personal relationship dynamics individuals have with them. I want to work to serve as a mirror—people being able to see themselves in my works. A healthy world involves people who are able to relate individually with themselves first before others. We can only give what we all have.
It has not been a smooth journey. The art industry is one filled with so many unwritten rules. It’s one where you could be skilled and be broke. There’s so much involved. I would say God has helped me through friends that keep pushing me. I stay consistent because I understand the power of little drops of water and the belief my breakthrough is here.
I want the world to see my story and have hope inspired in their heart as well as courage to face life because it is the mother of all virtues.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to thank my late friend, Yusuf Abiodun Who introduced me to the world of fine Art as well as Prince Adelakun and Fatola Isreal for showing me the possibilities entrenched in this field. I will also like to thank my friends who have been very supportive in thus journey of mine.
