We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Bašić and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Having a unique personal brand that stands out in my industry has been one of the key factors in the success of my business! I think a lot of creatives make the mistake of seeing the success of others and then trying to replicate that in their own businesses – everything from their creative style, their websites and brand colors and even their brand voice! You can learn a lot from the success of others, but the most impactful way you can stand out in the crowd and find your own success is to just be you!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I dabbled in art and photography at a young age, but when it came time for a career, I went for what was safe instead of what I was passionate about and quickly became burned out as a dental hygienist. I felt stuck for a long time and found an outlet as a mixed media artist. I quickly started selling my work and even began teaching business education to other creatives! Though my plan was to leave dentistry with art, the stresses of my day job ultimately cause a long-term creative block and I pivoted my primary business into photography! There are a lot of photographers out there and I’ve purposefully created a unique niche, personal brand, and photographic style that helps me stand out in the crowd. My business is specifically targeted to the nontraditional with a huge emphasis on client experience! One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in business is that creative talent is only part of what it takes to be successful. You could be the most talented artist to walk the earth, but if you don’t invest in educating yourself about business and marketing, your dreams of success will most likely fall short. The one thing I want others to know is that you don’t need to do what everyone does to be successful in life and in business. The BEST thing you could ever do is to be yourself, learn what you can from others, and live your life and conduct your business in your own unique way. You’ll rarely see success blending into the crowd. JUST. BE. YOU.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t believe we’re meant to do life and business alone and there are many creatives, books, and mentors who have influenced and inspired me! I definitely have to give a shout out to Carolyn Edlund from Artsy Shark, photographer and educator, Britany Bruce, and the book “Building a Storybrand,” by Donald Miller!
