Meet Becky Soler | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Soler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becky, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had the idea to start my own business in 2017. My youngest child had turned one but I had no idea how I would balance child care with the long hours of the legal world that I was used to. Luckily I had just discovered a new passion in photography. I had bought a professional camera to start taking photos of all the big milestones and holidays of my daughter’s first year and thought it would be great if I would be able to capture those special moments for others as well. I immersed myself in learning about photography techniques and taught myself how to use Lightroom photo editing software. I was comfortable to start photographing friends and family. I was fortunate with word of mouth and suddenly I found myself solidly booked but I still had the ability to create my own schedule that was convenient to my lifestyle. It overjoys me to have built this community and to continue to be capturing all their special memories.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I hope sets me apart is that I always try to incorporate my subjects vibes and personalities into their shoots. I understand the importance of a photographer having a recognizable style but I still try to make each shoot unique. I don’t come into a shoot with a list of set poses or an expectation of what the result will be. I always try to make it a collaborative process to ensure my clients’ own visions are achieved. I’m excited to continue to evolve in my photography and opening up to other areas such as product photography to support the success of other small businesses. The challenge I overcame was to trust my instinct to take a risk and commit to something new. A lesson I’ve learned is that you shouldn’t feel obligated to stay in a certain field only because you have a degree or experience in it. I would want the world to know that it is possible to make a living pursuing something you love. You will be surprised how supportive people will be along the way. Just have patience and keep moving forward 🤍

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A visit to Miami should include the Design District and a meal at Swan Miami. Upper Buena Vista is a really cool vibe and the Vista restaurant is beautiful. Coconut Grove is a classic stop with so much history. Enjoy an afternoon at the Barnacle and some good food at the Lokal followed by a nostalgic trip to Vicky’s House for some milkshakes. Vizcaya is a very special location to be transported to another time. I hope to someday have a photoshoot in this beautiful historical location. Catch some sun in Key Biscayne by the lighthouse. I have photographed so many beautiful sunset shoots there but also enjoy spending leisure time there and just recently climbed to the top of the lighthouse for an amazing view of the city. I love to spend time at Fairchild Botanical Gardens. It’s a hobby of mine to go and photograph the flowers and butterflies and I was excited to start doing photoshoots there as well. It’s such a beautiful location.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m grateful to my kids for being my inspiration and igniting my passion for photography. They will forever be my muses. I also hope I’ve inspired them to trust in themselves follow their dreams.
