We had the good fortune of connecting with Bela Shehu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship was coded to me by my father as early as I could understand business. The dream to come to this country was to practice that ability, so as soon as I got the chance to start my own clothing line I jumped right in.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creating is just an extension of life – life itself is art. I’m not sure if I am unique from other artists other than I am my own identity and apparatus of expression. I am grateful for every opportunity that I’ve gotten to experience and I’m excited for many more in the future. I think I’m in a very genuine relationship with this process and place in the market – I think that’s what keeps me evolving with it.
The biggest lesson I have learned so far is to strengthen my faith that everything is in perfect harmony at all times.
The story of my brand is the the story of my growth. It has been a great platform to practice the artist in me in so many areas of the business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As I read this question I realize how transformative life has been these last 2.5 years. Everything is new and different. I myself have been getting closer to nature. Lately I have been taking my guests for a long hike on Wissahickon Trails. I have shared with them secret streams and sat on my favorite rocks and meditated. I bring them to my studio in East Falls – we play dress up and manifest. Dinner has been mostly at The Lark and late night soft serve at The Landing Kitchen.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to Errolson Hugh, the designer of Acronym who inspired Willian Gibson to write Zero history. This book was the foundation of the journey I’ve been on the last 11 years with NINObrand.
