We had the good fortune of connecting with Benjamin Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benjamin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is hands-down the support system that surrounds me. I am fortunate enough to have friends and family that support my creative endeavors. Someone once told me that “if the people that you surround yourself with don’t support you, then surround yourself with new people…” and that stuck with me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a makeup artist, a licensed hairdresser, an artist, and a monster maker. I am 18 years old and I have a vision for my future that encompasses all of those elements. I struggled with a lot of self-criticism issues, always feeling that my work was subpar and that would demotivate me from creating. In recent months, I have learned that my art has value because it is my art. Everyone’s art has value, regardless of skill level or medium, simply because it’s uniquely theirs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to every person who has actively supported me. By coming to me when I was in cosmetology school to get their hair done, working with me on a film set, buying a print of my art, or complimenting my work, those people supported me in the best way that a creative can be supported.
