We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernadette Indre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bernadette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been an artist and creative individual my entire life and even graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Art in Visual Arts. Unfortunately, I graduated in 2008 during the recession and had no idea how to market myself or my work. I was hired into a major insurance company handling injury claims and eventually moved into pharmaceutical sales and finally medical device sales. The medical device industry is incredibly difficult to break into given the level of expertise required to succeed, but the financial payoff is substantial. It’s at this point in my career that I honed my sales and marketing skills. Fast forward to 2019 when I gave birth to my son and I began to juggle a fast-paced career with unpredictable hours and the demands of a baby. I desired more predictable hours and knew I could put my marketing knowledge into a creative career and make it work. I became licensed and certified to do permanent makeup at the end of 2021 and Bougie Brows by B. Marie was born a short time later! I’ve begun working full-time as a cosmetic tattoo artist specializing in Ombre powder brows and couldn’t be happier. I feel as though I’ve only scratched the surface of what I will accomplish.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Everyday I’m practicing and growing to become the best cosmetic tattoo artist that I can be. From in-person courses to studying online, to obsessively reviewing other permanent makeup artists’ works and tips, everyday I submerge myself in the industry. This career stems from a love and talent for fine art, specifically, portraiture in oil painting. I love creating beautiful art and now that I’m working full-time as a cosmetic tattoo artist, I’m hoping to dive into my first love, painting, again!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m originally from Ohio and made the best decision of my life to move to Florida once I turned 18. I now split my time between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. I’m a little bougie (hey, it’s in the company name 😅) so maybe we’d start in Miami. We’d enjoy the pool at The Icon Brickell which just so happens to be one of the largest in the country. They also have drink service from The W Hotel. My fave? Clase Azul with soda and a splash of OJ. We’d have to have dinner at Novikov later on because it has amazing food and an awesome atmosphere. If we had the energy, finish off the night at Tea Room atop East for the beautiful views and music. After Miami steals our energy, back to Fort Lauderdale to relax. The beach is a must for out of town visitors and we can have brunch at S3. My favorite dinner spots are Canyon, Martorano’s, and Trattoria. Anne’s is a great spot for some cute drinks and I love shopping for art on Las Olas. A boat cruise through all of the canals is fun too along with a little stop at the sandbar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my son. Everything I do is for him and I work so hard in the hours available to me to allow for more time with him. There is nothing more rewarding than raising him in a way that makes me happy and proud. He pushes me everyday because if I fail, all of this time I’ve put into my new business venture was nothing but lost time with him. I’m also lucky to have a supportive husband who believes in me and wants me and my son to be happy.
