We had the good fortune of connecting with Bianca Reeves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bianca, what do you attribute your success to?

I wholeheartedly believe there are two important factors behind my business’ success, the first being perseverance. Anyone stepping out on their own and taking that leap of faith in launching their own business knows there are good days and days where you are met with struggles and challenges. Anyone with the courage to take that first step and launch MUST keep going. You must push through the difficult times and oftentimes, make a way out of no way to ensure your business flourishes.
The second factor would be putting out a consistent product. I take pride in what I do. My top priority is always providing my customers with a consistent product, as it pertains quality and flavor. I learned very early that when it comes to food, you better be consistent! I think every customer wants to know he or she will get that same flavor and feeling each and every time, a sweet treat is purchased from MISS B. BAKES. It’s true: consistency is key. I truly believe it is what keeps my customers coming back for more!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I’ve always considered myself to be a creative, and I consider my desserts my works of art.
For those who enjoy a little indulgence, Miss B. Bakes – Sweets and Treats Boutique, provides a one-of-a-kind dessert experience to satisfy your cravings! Miss B. Bakes is a Chicago-based dessert company and your number one source for the best scratch made confections. We offer a variety of decadent desserts with a specialty in artisan cheesecakes, gourmet dessert bars, and scratch made brittle. Our quality desserts are reminiscent of old school flavors with a modern twist, and they are always scratch made with love.
I am proud of how far my brand has come in such a short amount of time because it has not been an easy road. I left the security of my corporate job as a Finance Assistant to chase a vision only I could see at the time. I banked on me, Bianca, and I’ve gotten to where I am professionally by working hard, believing in myself and what I am creating, and always having a plan. I’ve overcome the challenges that have come my way by keeping the bigger picture in sight and not allowing minor (yet daily) setbacks deter from my end goals. I’ve learned to trust MY intuition and vision. I’ve seen that when starting something new, people will have opinions and suggestions as to what you should be doing. It’s okay to listen, but ultimately, you should follow your heart and do what speaks to your spirit and the vision you have for your business.
I want the world to know that I’m just getting started. There’s a whole lot more on the way from MISS B. BAKES. With that being said, I’m excited to share I will be launching a spice kit named, Sprinkle ‘n Spice, in the next few months. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of the upcoming launch date!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

This is a tough one with Covid-19 currently impacting our daily lives, but hopefully we will return to some sort of normalcy soon.
Without a doubt, I’d suggest visiting the Windy City in the summer. One thing’s for sure, you won’t have to look very hard for something to do, and there’s nothing like summertime Chi. Some of my favorite things to do during summer are grabbing fresh cut fruit and gazpacho right on the street from my favorite Mexican fruit cart vendor on the northside, checking out all the various outdoor music festivals (from Ravinia in the northern suburbs to the Caribbean Festivals in Washington Park on the South Side), and checking out the food scene downtown at the Taste of Chicago, just to name a few.
Of course, you can’t come to Chicago and not try all the amazing food we have here. What they say is true, Chicago has the upper hand when it comes to variety and quality restaurant options. For breakfast, I love a local spot called Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club, while Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf is one of my all-time favorites for dinner. Their food is amazing and the calm, yet cool ambiance and cocktails add the perfect finishing touch. If it’s just a unique craft cocktail you’re after, the Dine Machine has you covered hands down. You can enjoy their beautiful floral scenery while you sip and as a bonus, create your own bouquet of flowers to take with you when you go.
I could go on and on about what Chicago has to offer!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

First, I would like to thank and shoutout all my loyal customers that have been rocking with me since I started MISS B. BAKES in 2018. I am always humbled by their support and belief in my brand.
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my late, great grandmother, Lula. My family and I were blessed with her presence as she lived to be an amazing 108 years young. She was by far the most pleasant spirit I have ever met. I remind myself to carry that with me in my own spirit daily.
I would also love to shoutout her daughter, my grandmother, Eddie B. Davis. I grew up watching her prepare many meals for our family in her kitchen, which she always did with lots of love and no complaints. Even now, at 90 years old, she may still be working harder than I do in the kitchen! Most definitely, she’s been one of my inspirations while on this journey.
