Meet Big Solo | Recording Artist, Therapist, Model & Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Big Solo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Big, how do you think about risk?
I approach risk taking like the game, two truths and a lie. The premise is to take as many risks as you can while being conscious of whatever probability of whatever unforeseen circumstance may arise. Consequently, taking no risk at all, may never put someone in position to reach goals or get ahead. It is the very thing that has helped me follow my dreams in all aspects of life go on to cofound Florolina Entertainment, Inc. The independent record label that is not JUST a record label allows me to be creative, tell my stories through art, and help the masses along the way. Risk taking, at large, can be beneficial in terms of taking next steps or a leap of faith. However, you have to be discipline enough to know when to not bet against the house one hundred percent of the time. Maybe 66% or even 77%.
Big Solo would tell the next generation of creatives to move cautiously yet confidently into the dark. Nobody ever plants a seed and already knows how it is going to look during full bloom so to take a risk is not always a liability but actually quite the contrary as it can promote growth to the highest extent; as does vulnerability. To counter my thought process about risk taking I would saying that living in Miami you have to beware of scamming. I too have been a victim all while trying to take a chance on myself and taking the path less traveled as an independent artist. As a creative, you never truly know who to trust and not every opportunity is legit.
Jermaine Cole once said; “if you scared to take a chance, how the the f*ck we gon’ get rich?”. I am going to continue this journey as my most authentic self; as everything that is for me and is congruent, will be in alignment with me. The serenity prayer helps me convert losses to lessons and meditation helps me turn thoughts to wins.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art is who I am. Any medium, anywhere, anytime. It is all I think about and I try to present it through fashion, my words, as well as images for the most part. Moments in time, meeting joy and creation help me express myself with even the slightest of gestures. Writing poetry and interest in photography have always been on the top of the lists when it comes to what captures my attention and feels natural to be apart of. The humming would not stop after choir practice, drawing would not stop after ap art class, and my design ideas would not stop after acting classes; all of those things pouring out of me is how I knew I could not run from my passions. I was 16 when I got signed with Carolina Talent modeling agency out of Charlotte, NC. 20 when I started recording music professionally which was back in 2019. Since then have performed on many stages, have 70+ songs on all streaming platforms, used my platform to host artist retreats per my independent record label, as well as continuously make a positive impact on fans and peers alike, through support, service and inspiration.
Trying to make something of yourself, something good, without pushback is never easy. I overcame many odds by not letting any worldly false hope and doubt, cloud my vision. Then not letting any bumps and bruises along the way, hinder my execution. A lesson I have learned is that a process can not be rushed if it is going to come out the way it is meant to.
The world should know that I am the next billionaire creative whose foundation is joy and peace.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anyone who visits Miami has to check out downtown, bayside, wynwood, brickell and south beach. Whatever you do, go outside and explore. I would try all of the vegan spots if you are open to it! My personal favorite aside from eating healthier is ‘ The Licking’. Mom and pop diners are always the best as well. Spots to hang out I would say the Miami Popup events. Of course a Heat game, and rolling loud!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Have to shout out my family, they have always been so musical and supportive in anything that I do. My business partner and mentor KK the Artist, Shelby, North Carolina where this dream was birthed, Bicom, the NUPEs, FGCU, and Madeinphlly, he’s really making a positive impact for artists in the city of Miami.
