We had the good fortune of connecting with Billie Jauss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Billie, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Overcoming the emotional barriers that kept me stuck was the first habit I had to implement. Once the habit of capturing the negative thought and replacing it I was able to step out with confidence. My faith helps me rely on God to infuse me with freedom and peace.
The next habit is taking each task one step at a time. When there are too many things looming in front of us we can become overwhelmed. Taking that task list and breaking it into small steps we can accomplish much more. Each of those small steps adds up to a successful day, month, and year.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an author, speaker, and podcast host. I began as a speaker many years ago. My husband has been in professional baseball for over 35 years, and groups asked me to share our experiences living this crazy lifestyle of moving, raising kids, and staying married.
My career started with being an ICU nurse. At eight years old, I knew I wanted to be a nurse and help others overcome health issues and live healthy lives. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University and embarked on a great career.
After having kids and my husband’s job kept him away from home, I chose to stay home with our boys. I struggled with giving up a career I had always desired but raising our kids became my biggest struggle yet my greatest joy.
I struggled to keep it all together, falling deeply into loneliness and feeling disconnected. My faith became my foundation of survival.
Over our years in pro-ball, we’ve lived in fifteen different cities and towns in the United States and in Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. During those years, my career was stay-at-home and homeschool mom. Also included was being the travel agent, housing coordinator, chef, housekeeper, and mediator of disagreements.
When our youngest son was finishing high school, I began to pray about my purpose without kids in the house. The empty nest came, and God answered, redirecting my career again. I was confused, I had almost flunked out of high school English, and now He was asking me to write.
Eighteen months after I took writing on as a new career, I had my first book contract. Making Room was my first book, followed by Distraction Detox a few years later. I am speaking more to women trying to keep it all together, just wanting to do God’s best in their lives.
It was not what I thought my life would look like in the empty nest, but I love connecting with women and walking hand in hand, learning how to live life to the fullest when life is full.
I started podcasting in 2017. The start small Believe Big podcast has 200 episodes. Again, I knew this was a sure thing that would last forever, but the Lord redirected me again. In September 2022, I have a new podcast. The Family Room is a safe place for those struggling to keep it all together to find to hear about faith, family, and friendships.
Our careers can begin in one direction, yet when we allow God to direct our steps, we find a new purpose and plan that is more fulfilling than anything we could have created. I am thankful for the growth of my faith and the guidance of God in my career.
I now have two published books, speak to groups large and small and host a podcast. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been fulfilling to help others. I hope to motivate and inspire them on how to balance their lives and grow in their faith, family, and friend relationships. I don’t have all the answers, but I have lived a lot of life and learned a lot of lessons.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve lived in Florida for the majority of my adult life. I love so much about this state. We now live in Southwest Florida and love it.
When my friends travel to Florida to visit, I love to take them to the beach. Florida beaches are lovely, and the Naples pier is a great place to watch locals fish. Then an airboat ride in the Florida Everglades is on the agenda. They love to see the natural habitat for gators and birds.
As we venture around southwest Florida, we would stop for coffee at many stops, then lunch at World Market for Cuban food. Dinner would be somewhere on 3rd Ave. One of the things about this area is you can eat lunch and dinner at a different restaurant almost every day and never stop at the same one, lots of good food and great atmosphere. Strolling on 5th Ave after dinner is a great place to hear live music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to the wonderful group of writer/speaker friends who have encouraged and inspired me along the way. Too many to name individually, I’m afraid I’ll forget someone!
