Meet Blak Kami | Streetwear Brand

We had the good fortune of connecting with Blak Kami and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blak, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our overall thought process was generational wealth, but we knew that to reach that we have to play the long game. This clothing brand is a way for us to create a stream of revenue that we can take the capital from this venture and put invest into another down the line.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our main goal is to create a blueprint of what it looks like to come together as friends and create an empire. Each of us has a skill that can be put to use to create revenue. We also are surrounded by creative, talented, and powerful people as well, which has inspired us to network with our inner circles and create opportunities for them to get some notoriety as well. We got to where we are professionally by wanting more out of life, by realizing that time is precious and that it’s more to it than working a 9-5 and making somebody else wealthy. The road was FAR from easy, with a lot of obstacles, especially when you’re new to the world of entrepreneurship. What helped us overcome this was consistency! Never feel like we know everything but acknowledge that we don’t know enough. The continuous strive for knowledge and insight has kept us sharp and helps us create new ideas that we know nobody else can come up with. What we want the world to know about our brand and story is that we represent brotherhood, and we strive to help bring a sense of unity back into the community we come from, the world won’t change overnight but we want to help one step at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’re from the city of Baltimore but as far as eating we usually go to our private chef/ Good friend Ira Mangum (One of the best chefs in the city), drinking or hanging out we usually go to each other’s houses but we would go to Brass Tap or St Mary’s definitely got good food and drinks there. We could go to Original house of pancakes which has FIRE breakfast food. We could also go downtown around the harbor or go to this pizza spot called Maria D’s which is probably one of the best pizza spots in the city. For fun we could visit some of the museums in the city, could go hiking out Patapsco park, could visit Lexington Market since it’s a staple in the city and hang out in the Canton area and visit Sound Garden one of the best record stores in Baltimore. All in all Baltimore is really a melting pot and your experience will differ depending on who you talk to. That’s the beauty of it because places any of us would take you, somebody else could give you a completely different experience. Baltimore has so much culture and variety even in tough parts of the city they’re gems to be found.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to thank our parents and our families for molding us into the men we have become. We want to thank our kids for giving us something to fight for that’s bigger than ourselves. We want to also thank our friends for supporting the brand and helping our name get out there. We want to thank Nipsey Hussle for inspiring the idea of starting with clothes as a stream of revenue and educating us on the importance of ownership and also want to shoutout David Banner who put the bug in our ear about “Group Economics”, we googled the definition and haven’t looked back since.
