We had the good fortune of connecting with Blanca Jiron Daphne Fortin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blanca Jiron, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?

The most important and critical lesson we have learned of entrepreneurship of an emerging franchise is flexibility is what stands out as the most important lesson, you must become flexible and constantly problem solve when things don’t go properly or as you expect them to. There are a lot of long days and nights trying to make sure everything runs smoothly, preparing everything to provide our guests with the most magical experience onboard our baking bus.  We’ve learned to be each other’s support; we’ve learned that sometimes one of us needs to take the lead and make decisions because no one is going to make them for us. We’ve taken each other’s’ weaknesses and filled them with our strengths.

Being our own boss, we don’t have the luxury of running to someone above us to ask to fix a problem that might arise. Many hats are worn as an entrepreneur that include but not limited to problem solving, leadership, making things more efficient, producing new ideas, etc. Anything in life that has worth will be hard, but what keeps us going and able to overcome the obstacles is when a child exclaims, they had the best birthday, or the best experience. We create core memories for their special day. Our proudest moments we’ve experienced on board our bus is when the children are excited to learn and create. We love hearing them say “best day ever”, “WOW, this is so cool”. We recently had a child onboard, and her words were “wow, I can’t believe this is real?  Is this real life? This is going to be so much fun!”. Her remarks were made as soon as she entered the bus, she was in awe of the Bake it On Wheels Bus.  The reactions of parents and adults who enter the bus as equally expressed with amazement.

Growth is not easy, it’s painful, it takes you out of your comfort zone where we like to be.  But, without growth we do not progress.  Therefore, you must get comfortable with being uncomfortable as an entrepreneur.  Everything lies on you, but no matter what arises it is a decision we are grateful for and believe it is well worth the long days and nights. There is a sense of accomplishment when you build a business, it becomes your baby and as entrepreneurs we want to see our baby grow up and provide amazing experiences to all those who enter our doors.  Luckily, with our partnership and with the help of the brand creator and owner Natasha O’Conner we can throw out ideas to overcome any obstacle that arises.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Bake it On Wheels is a uniquely immersive experience we provide our guests with a one-of-a-kind experience in both Miami-Dade and Broward County that children and adults alike can enjoy.  We cater to anyone of any age above 4 years old and engulf them in the art of baking. Once you book your party, we arrive at your location where you get to learn how to bake cookies, cupcakes, decorate cakes and glaze delicious doughnuts. They get to choose their sprinkles for their goodies from the colorful and sweet sprinkle station. We have children with different skill sets and we enjoy when we can teach the ones who have never baked a new skill.

Creation is the core of any beginning and who knows we might have future bakers step out our bus with a desire to keep creating and baking. Natasha created a unique brand, and we want to share it with our Broward customers. We want everyone that experiences the Bake It on Wheels Brand to walk away with a special experience and happy memories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in South Florida has its perks, we live where people come to vacation. One of the incredible experiences you can immerse yourself when visiting is the global presence of culinary delights. So many different cultures that make up the city that provide a plethora of diversity of activities. Our year-round sunshine provides many outdoor activities you can enjoy from kayaking in Oleta River Park to Historic Calle Ocho which provides an old school golden Cuban culture of Bolero Rooms. We have the Doral area where South American culinary fuses with a modern twist and so many distinct areas that provide you with so much to do.  We have amazing beaches and would recommend spending some time dipping your toes from the beaches of South Beach to Ft. Lauderdale. Brickell provides an array of young and hip up and coming restaurants. Wynwood with its eclectic style provides you with distinctive artistic food, music, and art. If you love seafood, we have a vast array of seafood restaurants on Miami River. The world is here in South Florida, and we are lucky and blessed to live here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

They say raising a child takes a village, we’ve learned in our 6 months into this adventure is that building a business also takes a village. We are very blessed to have a foundation of an amazing group of people that support us, guide us and give us a word of encouragement when we need it the most.

We were raised by incredible strong women, our mothers, who always told us that we can accomplish what we set our hearts on. They instilled in us faith, work ethic, hard work, and to always be determined to succeed. These values are the same we share to the next generation of girls that our watching us, Daphne’s daughter Emma and my nieces Elayna, Isabella and Liana, showing them they too can be entrepreneurs. Because of those values we were provided by our foundation, we would like to give a shout out to our Mother’s Ligia and Edith, thank you for always supporting and believing in us.

We also would like to give a shout out to our staff, friends, and family members who one way or another added a grain of sand to help make this business flourish. Thank you for providing your input, encouragement, prayers and assistance when we needed it.

Finally, we would like to give a shout out to Natasha O’Conner, the founder of Bake it on Wheels for an amazing product and for her guidance.  She created this brand during the start of the pandemic, and it has now franchised out.  We are excited to have bought into the Broward Franchise and look forward to seeing the brand grow nationally.
