We had the good fortune of connecting with Blondel Garçon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blondel, how do you think about risk?
So far being risky is what has gotten me where I am. I still have a long way to go as far as achieving personal goals but I understand that I am young, and taking risks now would be far safer and better for me in the long run. Also the feeling of doing something you’re unsure of is slightly satisfying to me lol. All in all taking risks has played a huge role in my career thus far.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a fashion, portrait and beauty photographer. I would personally describe my work as elegant, dramatic and crisp based off of the way I like to light my subjects. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in the photography world, comparing my style of photography from just a year ago is completely different to how I shoot now. The journey to get here though was far from easy. Took a lot of investing, prioritizing, self-doubt, and a lot of education on the subject. I overcame all those obstacles by just sticking to the plan. The idea of reaching my goal mattered to me the most and in times where I feel unmotivated, I just think of the finish line and how great it’ll feel to know that I did it. There are many lessons that come with the journey though. I learned that specializing in one specific niche of whatever you do narrows down your clientele but it will give you more quality clientele, thus allowing you to shoot what you want instead of just shooting to earn a dollar. Networking is also key, the people I’ve managed to get in contact with I’ll forever be grateful for. I really want the world to know that I am far from just a photographer, I’m an artist. I have ventured off in different mediums like graphic design and soon painting. Photography is just one of the many forms I can express myself and it’s one of the ways that I can create my own world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Miami, I would love to take them to a few of my favorite spots to eat. Some places like Juice & Java in North Miami Beach to catch a açaí bowl, this one Japanese restaurant called Uchi to eat up some sushi and probably even go through some food trucks. For a fun night out I would love to take them to a lounge in Wynwood called LeChick to just chill and catch a laugh. We’re for sure going to the beach, it would be a sin if we didn’t. For a more chill beach setting I would take them to Haulover beach to sit and relax, for a fun and random beach day we got to go to south beach because anything can happen lol. I would also love to show them around the Design District and hit up a few art galleries. And since we’re in the area we might as well go to Wynwood to check out some street art and some local clothing stores.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Huge thanks goes out to Paris Cotton, Will Swish, the team at HGAB Studios and Deivis Archbold Photography!
