We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad Montgomery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brad, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I teach people “people skills.” How to better connect, engage, care, project warmth and encourage. There are two benefits from this message. First, when we Focus on the People in our businesses, our bottom line grows. (I have a ton of info on the science behind this fact if you like…let me know.). But more importantly, right now, we ALL are feeling overwhelmed, tired, just plain “done.” We are overwhelmed from the news of the world, the planet, and from a very divided country. It turns out that focusing on helping other people get what THEY want helps us feel better and perform at a higher level.

Bottom line: my message helps businesses. That’s nice. But best of all, my messages helps people to be better people. (Which, coincidentally helps the organizations they serve.)

Showing corporate America…including our health care and educational systems … That investing in the people in their organizations has a HUGE pay off in nearly every single way is totally satisfying.

My message has always been important…but lately it’s been vital. I’m proud to be part of it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a keynote speaker for business audiences. My clients demand I deliver a message that helps their organization, and the people in it, perform at a higher level — and increase their bottom line.

I approach this biz as an art: how can I reach people in a way that engages them, makes them think, and makes them care? I better be more than whatever they expect from a “motivational speaker.” I better be fresh, clever, and unique. This is where the art comes in.

I’m proud of the fact that my audiences are surprised they like me, and surprised they find value in what I offer. I find that to be huge compliment.

I’m sure most of my audiences don’t think of what I do as art. But I’m Uber-clear that what I do — entertain people while I teach profound life truths — is an art form.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My answer is not what you’d expect. I’d search for a smaller quiet restaurant that serves food and cocktails in a way that makes you want to linger. It’s quiet enough to talk, to connect, and to listen.

I love speakeasy bars, quiet local “joints,” and small groups. No more than 4 people because I want the connection to be real.

You’ll notice that the WHERE is not important. It’s the WHAT and WITH WHOM that matter most to me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s an organization. The National Speakers Association has helped me understand what is possible when it comes to my business. They have taught me, encouraged me, been my role models …and many of them have become my family. Without that association, and the many encourages I encountered through it, I wouldn’t have made it as far as I have.
