We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Lauren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bri, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Jamaica born and raised! Big up! I do strongly believe that it’s in our DNA to sell and make something out of nothing we are one of the most creative and unique people. However on a more personal level majority of my family are entrepreneurs so I grew up seeing my mother bake to sell around major holidays later opening her boutique my grandfather having multiple businesses. I didn’t grow up very privileged to be honest I remember my mother making sure food was in the house so that I could take lunch to school because she couldn’t afford to give me lunch money everyday it was abit embarrassing but I did make an opportunity out of it I started to cook and my friends loved my food so I would sell my lunch to then get lunch money I was probably around 11/12 years old. That was my second hustle lol. My first hustle was selling gummy bears which the school banded me from doing so I would have my friends pre order and bring it the next day to keep it on the low. With all this experience it does give me a different level of drive and determination

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have an Online Swim Boutique..Bri Lauren Swim. I pride myself not only in customer service and quality but the unique experience that you get from just being a BL Babe. I do cater to all body types but being a fuller/Curvy/Plus Size woman finding swimsuits was a challenge for myself so on this journey I want to not only show women who look like me or feel as if they can’t look and feel good in themselves that they can and it’s possible. I want women to “Always be their Most confident.” I offer consultations for you to be able to speak with me and see what I will recommend for your level of comfort. Let’s just say being in business is no joke I wouldn’t say it’s not for the weak because I feel like you can do anything you put your mind to. What i would say however is that it starts with making a commitment and sticking to it no matter the outcome. All days are not peaches and creme but you have to show up and not afford for anything negative to stop you. It’s not easy but you just have to remember that commitment and why you started because you will stumble on some hurdles but just keep going. Being in business has been an amazing journey and I just keep growing as a person along this process I have been able to learn soo much 1) Set a goal and no matter what stick to it. You might have to change the route but the destination should remain, 2) Setting up routines and systems will help you to not only be more efficient but it’s something to stick to when you’re feeling a little demotivated. 3) Give yourself grace it’s something new to you so you will be learning a lot always be ready to learn. 4)Take breaks. This is something extremely challenging for me to this day. lmao! because there is always something to do but in order for you to perform at your highest rest is important. 5) Take action now! Don’t wait

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
if its a week long we are going somewhere okay! lol I do love to travel and explore new places and Curacao has been on my bucket list so we are planing and trip! lol but I do love food so a nice meal and drinks will do in New York Rosa’s at park @rosasatpark has an amazing brunch vibe so we are going there and summer time in NY you MUST go to a BBQ in someone’s backyard! Other than that it might be a calm spa day being that I am busy all the time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
