We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Corriston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For as far back as I can remember I was always happiest when sports were part of my life. I had played golf for a while before the COVID lockdown but my love and passion for the game really amped up during that time. Post lockdown when it was time to start going back to work, I knew I wanted to make a change and be in the golf industry somehow. My game wasn’t quite ready to become a PGA teaching pro but I knew it was close. I decided opening up a golf simulator business would be a great way to stay around the game and make a living
doing something I love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lauderdale Links is a golf simulator business located in Fort Lauderdale. We have three Simulator bays that can be used for anything from dialing in your numbers on the driving range to playing a full 18 holes on world renowned courses such as Pebble Beach or St. Andrews. We offer hourly rentals of the bays as well as private events and golf instructions. The business was born out of a passion and love for the game combined with a desire to offer local golfers a place that they could play regardless of the weather or time of day. The Mission was simple, give the local golf community a place that they can come
play golf indoors. Although not originally part of the business plan, Lauderdale Links has also become a great place for new golfers to get into the game without some of the barriers and pressure normally attached with being a brand new player. We have rental clubs and a relaxed atmosphere for beginners. One of the most enjoyable parts of the job has been watching people go from never swinging a club to becoming avid golfers in a short period of time. If golf is your passion, but work and life are always getting in the way, we have you covered!
We are open 7 days a week till midnight.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite spots in Fort Lauderdale is American Social on Las Olas. It was one of my first jobs when I moved to Florida almost 10 years ago and has remained a home base for almost any night out in the city. As far as restaurants go it’s tough to beat Cafe Martorano, off Oakland for Italian food. Greek Isles and Southport Raw Bar are also near the top of my list for a more casual vibe. Golf wise my favorite public track has to be “The Park” in Palm Beach. It’s only been open about a year but it’s become a place you have to check out if you’re visiting from out of town.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I need to shout out to my parents. My father Kevin has been an avid golfer for my entire life, my first job in the golf industry was actually as a caddie for him and his friends in the summers during high school and college. My mother Deb is also an athlete and still races sailboats competitively to this day. They have been to every sporting event I played in from my Little League days all the way through college football. Their support was huge in my decision to leave my day job and open my own golf business. There are also two PGA professionals that I consider mentors in my life. The first is Dr. Gary Wiren. Dr. Wiren is a legend in the sport and was the Director of Education, Learning, and Research for the PGA of America between 1972 and 1985. Being able to spend time with Doc as a student of his myself and watching him work and interact with his other students has been an absolute pleasure and blessing. The second is PGA professional and First Tee Broward Director Of Operations, Sean Kicker. Sean has been a friend and mentor for about a year now and he showed me that with hard work and determination it’s possible to make golf into my career.
