We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Galton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, how do you think about risk?
My brother’s have always told me I am “The Risk Taker” in the family. It felt like a compliment while at the same time realizing that something is always at stake. Meaning I always knew that I needed to be able to accept my losses or consequences and not to gamble unless it was something I could afford. You start off small and you gain confidence. I’m still not one to go to Vegas with plans of winning millions and instead enjoy the art of creating my own luck. In fact, it is important to consider as many options as possible and then try to select the path that is most likely to achieve the results you want. That said, if your first option is wrong then you have to be willing to go down the next best path. Again, you must have confidence that you can achieve your goal. Hence, is a Motto that has been embedded in my memory and a rule I live by every day: “I never fail at anything, I just learn 1 more way not to do it”. You have to believe in yourself and to do that you must educate yourself. Learn from the best Mentors and study your chosen industry. Ask yourself why the leader is #1. Also ask yourself what you don’t like and then you can set your own standards to at the very least believe you are better then the leader. I love the thrill of taking a risk and seeing positive results and I love it even more knowing I failed a few times first before finding the right path. Success can come from an inheritance and it can come from starting at the bottom and working your way up, or it may come from pure luck. There are going to be risk no matter what and you get to decide how big of a risk you are willing to take. A lottery ticket may just be a $1 Risk with a huge payout. The odds are stacked against the millions who fail, so try to learn how to improve the odds. Once you learn how to make the odds in your favor; then you are on your way to success. As much as I would have loved to win the lottery or inherited a fortune, there is a greater sense of pride and gratitude working you way up the ladder and earning your way thru taking some smart well calculated risk. Make no mistake, in the middle of all risk is a lot of hard work and willingness to work harder then everyone else. Determination, Honesty, Integrity, and a Positive Mind are all traits that will increase your odds to be a successful risk taker.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sunrise Paddleboards is the only Stand Up Paddle Business in the country with tons of activities, Volunteer Programs, Clean River Project, while building our own Paddle Boards, Paddles, and a Trademark line of Accessories for just about everything Stand Up Paddle Board. It is a great feeling knowing the Dick Sporting Goods, West Marine, Sports Authority, Walmart, and the Costco’s of the world cannot compete with our niche.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
007 Jet Ski Adventures explores all the waterways around Fort Lauderdale, so seeing everythihg from the water in a City that thrives on the water is a no brainer. Las Olas is a must walk to see the Cafes, Galleries, and Shops to enjoy the feel of Fort Lauderdale Downtown Riverfront. Elbo Room for Live Music, Greek islands for food that always pleases the buds, and a day at the beach to take in the nature and get grounded.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I heard plenty of people critique my mom, but she never wasted any energy judging others. Meanwhile, my dad sent me Motivational CD’s and magazines that it took years before I realized how much they taught me. My brothers and sister always praised my leadership and gave me the confidence to never be afraid of reaching for the top.
