We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Laubert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ultimately, I wanted to create multiple streams of income to facilitate my own financial freedom by January 1, 2027. At the time, I had no specifics, just an end goal. I began to think about my talents and my passions and in what ways they aligned. I decided to turn my passion for reading into a writing career, and to turn my passion for fitness into a specialized training center for athletes.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My first book, Everyman’s Con, will be finished by January 1, 2023. The process of its formation has transformed my life. When I decided to write fiction, it was nothing more than a fantasy. I had no idea how to write a book, but something inside me told me to go for it. Fortunately, I was able to evaluate myself critically. I knew I needed to start with the fundamentals. I researched the materials that graduate creative writing programs use, purchased the materials, and went to work. I studied how to write fiction for three years before I began to write. I already had a theme in mind for my first work, but I actually wrote two full novels before I settled on the story for Everyman’s Con. Through the process I learned that nothing comes easy. Anything worth doing requires the utmost dedication and willingness to put in the right work. There were times when I thought I was a complete fool, but I continued to follow the process, allowing myself the freedom to adjust my goals and plans as needed. Then one day, everything clicked. The storyline for Everyman’s Con was my own life story. I had it all along. It is a story containing desire, tragedy, crisis, and redemption. The experience transformed me in that I learned that I had the will and desire to push through any obstacle, even when the obstacle seemed insurmountable. From that lesson, I gained the strength to create the life I desire. I used that lesson to drive the creation of my athletic training business as well. Perseverance in the face of all adversity and failure is the secret to success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
No doubt about it…we are going to catch the Dolphins and Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium. Nothing better than Miami Football in the South!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jack Smith
Mr. Jack Smith, Pastor at Westville Baptist Church, got involved in my life about four years ago. He taught me what it meant to be a real man and inspired me to become the man I am today. He showed me how to act with integrity towards myself and towards others. Because of his influence, I learned how to become the man on who others can trust and rely upon.
