We had the good fortune of connecting with Brigitte Balbinot and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brigitte, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I think as an artist the temptation to give up may always be there lurking but if we create our art from a place of truth and sheer authentic expression, giving up cannot exist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I don’t think there is anything easy about being an artist, and even less so when building a career. Developing the confidence necessary to succeed as a professional requires thick skin and perseverance. The road that led me to where I am today with my art has been punctuated by successes, set backs, doubt, but also taught me that being the best version of myself is the answer. Not comparing to others, not letting the outside world steer my own ship in any way and remaining true to my own values and vision has been instrumental in keeping me focused. My “brand” is just a visual amalgams of some of the things I treasure most such as earth energy, raw textures found in nature, history and universal laws that govern all things. Embracing the Japanese philosophy of the WABI-SABI for instance that celebrates the beauty of the imperfect has been a creative compass for the last decade.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being that I reside in South Florida, our national parks to get a taste of our fauna and the best Sushi restaurants that I know!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The art community, other artists before me that have embraced their gift and be brave enough to put themselves out there and share their vision.
