We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Farinas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was in design school and simultaneously landed my first project, I never really looked at another option besides starting and building my own business. I never worked or interned for a design firm, so I learned 100 percent through trial and error (and still do).

What should our readers know about your business?
House of One is something that happened very organically, I’ve had so many design influences around me since I was very young. I’m most proud of the team I’ve built and the amazing projects and clients we’ve been able to have the opportunity to work for. The last five years have been filled with a lot of learning from experience, but also a lot of research. I’ve spent almost every weekend these last few years working, whether it was on project-specific items or business development. I’m a very driven and motivated person, so what seems like a sacrifice to some people, has actually been this blessing of an opportunity to be able to do what I love to do every day, in my eyes. I not only learned a lot through overcoming obstacles but gained a huge appreciation for the wins I’ve had along my journey- which I think is the most important part of the process. I want people to associate House of One with a curated, chic, bespoke, luxurious design that comes with a VIP client experience. The name comes from the idea of approaching interiors as an artist would with a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Right now, we’re most excited about our projects that are coming to an end with construction + being able to see 1+ years of work finally come to full fruition. We’re also launching a capsule collection with Malcusa around Art Basel, so stay tuned!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First thing’s first, Pura Vida for breakfast, Form50 for the best workout, and depending on what the vibe is, we could go sit and hang out for lunch at the Standard, unless we’re saving that for Sunday and having endless Rosés. For dinner during the week, we would definitely go to Uchi or Casa Tua, and when we’re lounging we’d hang out at the pool or beach at the W in South Beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shout out to my design inspiration Kelly Wearstler for constantly breaking boundaries + giving always giving that reminder to tap into your wildest creative ideas. Also, to LuAnn Nigara for creating an amazing platform for designers who own their own business.
