We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryana Bertrand and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting your own business is not easy. It comes with a lot of ups & downs, time, dedication, & sacrifice. I turned something I loved into a business & I committed to it knowing it could either go two ways, which is success or failure.. I don’t believe in failure. I believe that if you truly want something you’re going to put your mind into it & become a go-getter. I’ve always had a business mindset. I find all my resources & target audience. I pay attention to what people like & I make sure I turn all my idea’s into reality. You have to be patient, don’t rush perfection, everything will fall into place soon.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve always loved makeup since I was little. When I got to high school that’s when I actually wanted to start wearing makeup more. I would watch so many youtube tutorials on how to do makeup. One day I started with my eyebrows, then when I learned it I started to experiment more with foundation, eyeshadow & so on. Every night I’d practice doing my makeup & post it on social media via instagram. I use to get a lot of compliments & people would tell me that I should start to actually do makeup. I finally started my makeup page @projectgllam on instagram, September 26 2021. It wasn’t easy at first. I’ve gotten a few followers & shoutouts here & there but what I was struggling with most was gaining clientele. I found this facebook group-chat that has about 32.5k members in the Broward area. This group chat is the reason my business has went up so much. I would post, promoting my business everyday to get clients. I would post sales, discounts, free models, anything to get people to come to me. When I started doing more faces I got better & better over the time & hearing people tell me all the time, “I love your work, you do so good, you’re gonna get big!” It motivates me strongly to keep going & it brings me joy when I do a face & I KNOW i’m doing amazing. I had to have patience & set a new goal for myself each time I reached it. Some lessons I learned along the way is to work hard & make sure you never settle. Your business is YOUR business & you can’t let anybody tell you less of what it is. Don’t let anybody tell you your prices are too high! People will buy expensive materialistic things because of the name brand but won’t support your business. REAL supporters are going to come to you no matter what because of how good your work is & how professional you are. Know your worth! It’s only been a year & I am so proud & grateful for how much I’ve succeeded so far & I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me. For anyone out there wanting to start a business or do something they love I strongly encourage you to! Don’t give up because if it’s meant for you it’ll happen & when you start to fall into that mind of doubt there’s going to be something that reminds you this is for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week in Broward can actually be pretty fun with the right people. There’s this place in Oakland Park called Tatts & Tacos, me & my friends call that “Our Spot.” It’s such a vibe there, it’s an outdoor scenery with live music, drinks, & the food is amazing. I also recommend Bar Rita. There will ALWAYS be parties, night clubs, bars. Definitely check out Truth Lounge, O’Malleys, & GVOBrunch. It’s a Brunch spot in Hollywood every Sunday with unlimited mimosas with RSVP Before 3pm & Ladies in for Free!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother & father. They are so supportive of me & do anything they can to help my business grow. I get my business mindset from them both. My mother is such a strong minded & tough woman. She taught me everything I needed to know & makes sure I do what I have to do to make it in life. My bestfriend Nyla Simpson, who is a Hairstylist @hairbynylaaa She’s the best, my personal & business bestie. She pushed me to start my business when I was first contemplating. My model Ajané Lawrence, who customizes in anything you can think of! Anytime I needed a face to practice on she came through. She customized anything I needed & made my business cards. These 4 people are a very important aspect of my life & career & I couldn’t be more happier to have them in my life. I love them so much.
