We had the good fortune of connecting with Budy (pronounced Beauty) Jamilly Whitfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Budy (pronounced Beauty) Jamilly, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
As a therapist, my work-life balance has evolved over time. Initially, when I was starting my practice, I dedicated a significant amount of time and energy to building my client base and establishing my reputation. This often meant longer work hours and limited personal time.
However, as I gained more experience and developed a better understanding of the importance of work-life balance, I started implementing strategies to create a healthier equilibrium. I recognized that maintaining my own well-being was crucial in order to effectively support my clients.
Now, I prioritize self-care and set clear boundaries between work and personal life. I have established specific working hours and make sure to allocate time for activities that recharge me, such as exercise, spending time with loved ones, pursuing hobbies, and engaging in self-reflection.
In terms of how I think about work-life balance, I view it as a dynamic and ongoing process rather than a static goal. It requires continuous evaluation and adjustment based on the demands of my practice, personal life, and overall well-being. I strive to maintain a sense of flexibility and adaptability, recognizing that there may be times when work requires more attention, but also ensuring that I consistently make time for self-care and personal fulfillment.
Overall, I believe that achieving a healthy work-life balance is essential for both my own well-being and the quality of care I provide to my clients. It allows me to approach my work with a clear mind, emotional resilience, and the ability to be fully present in my personal life.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As a mental health therapist and coach, my journey to where I am today in my business has been a mix of challenges and growth. It was not easy, but overcoming the obstacles along the way has been a valuable learning experience.
When I first started my business, I faced the challenge of building credibility and establishing myself in the field. It required investing time and effort in building my qualifications, gaining experience, and continuously expanding my knowledge through training and professional development.
One of the biggest challenges I encountered was marketing and promoting my services. In a saturated industry, it was important to differentiate myself and convey the unique value I could offer. I overcame this challenge by investing in marketing strategies, creating a strong online presence, and leveraging social media platforms to reach my target audience.
Another significant challenge was navigating the financial aspect of running a business. I had to learn how to manage my finances effectively, set realistic pricing for my services, and ensure a steady income stream. Seeking guidance from financial experts and business mentors was instrumental in overcoming this challenge.
Throughout this journey, I have learned several valuable lessons. Firstly, perseverance and resilience are key. Building a successful business takes time and effort, and setbacks are inevitable. However, it is important to stay committed to the vision and adapt to challenges along the way.
Secondly, continuous learning and self-improvement are essential. The field of mental health is constantly evolving, and staying updated with the latest research and practices is crucial to provide the best support to my clients. Additionally, investing in my own personal growth and well-being has had a direct impact on the quality of my coaching.
Lastly, building meaningful connections and collaborations has been vital. Networking with other professionals in the industry, collaborating on projects, and seeking mentorship have not only expanded my knowledge but also opened doors to new opportunities.
In terms of my brand and story, I want the world to know that I am passionate about empowering individuals to prioritize their mental health and well-being. My mission is to provide support, guidance, and tools to help individuals overcome challenges, cultivate resilience, and thrive in their personal and professional lives. I believe that everyone has the potential to create positive change and lead fulfilling lives, and I am dedicated to helping them unlock that potential.
My brand is built on authenticity, empathy, and a client-centered approach. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their thoughts, emotions, and goals. Through my coaching, I aim to empower individuals to take charge of their mental health, build resilience, and create a life that aligns with their values and aspirations.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my bestie down to the meat packing district in the city. We would have dinner at Catch and walk the Highline just to embrace the beauty of the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A few people deserve so much credit, but I start it off with thanking God for covering me, my husband and son for always supporting me. My group of girlfriends, my family for being a sounding board. I also extend gratitude to the women and men of the Latinx in Social Work. We’ve built such an amazing community of thought leaders in the field.
Lastly if I had to choose the many books it would be You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
