We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Mamone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was little I have loved doing art projects and doing anything creative. I have continued this as an elementary school teacher, doing fun hands-on projects with students and letting them tap into their creative side. My Grand-daddy was a big part of my photography influence. He traveled the world and always had a camera by his side. He taught me that pictures capture and save moments in your life. This has always stuck with me. When the pandemic hit, I decided that people should still be able to have beautiful pictures and capture those important parts in their lives that may have been taken from them, engagements, graduations, birthday.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love taking photos of families and children. As a teacher I feel like I can connect with them and have useful tools, especially when it comes to the younger children. I love to play music during my sessions, I believe it helps loosen up the clients and makes the children happy. I have recently gotten into maternity photography as well and I love to capture moms-to-be and the joy you can see in their faces. I would love to start getting into the wedding business, but I know that it will not be easy. Finding clients has been the hardest part, especially in the beginning. It was very important to create a portfolio to be able to show potential clients what they would be receiving from me. Thankfully my friends and family helped out by letting me take their photos and practice sessions with them. I want everyone to know that I got into this business to help people have memories to last a lifetime. I love my repeat customers who get to see how their families have grown. I am here to make sure that everyone is able to have photos they will love and cherish.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Hollywood I am lucky enough to be able to show my friends both Fort Lauderdale and Miami. In Fort Lauderdale I would definitely have to take them to Orchastrated Minds Brewery, it is one of our favorite hang outs. We would definitely have to get Wells Coffee and then walk over to Invasive Species Brewery. For margaritas and Mexican food we would walk down Las Olas and stop at El Camino. To relax, we would bring our dog Lily to the Hollywood Dog Beach, it is always fun for both people and fur babies! We also love hanging out at The Wharf in both Fort Lauderdale and Miami. One thing we enjoy is mountain biking in Virginia Key. It is relaxing and rewarding. And lastly ANYWHERE in Wynwood, especially Kush for burgers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that have supported this new career. The first is my husband, Travis. I told him my idea about buying a camera to capture our family and he told me that was a great idea and maybe I could even turn it into a business. This first put the idea in my head. He has been supportive through it all, driving me to some sessions, being a practice model, and even being my assistant when I need him. Second is my parents, they have helped with start up money as well as buying new lenses to help improve my photos. I have taken classes through Brittney Bruce and KJ education and have learned so much about his business. And of course all of my friends who helped me build my portfolio in the beginning.
