We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Wyman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caitlin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I left my corporate job to pursue a career in makeup artistry 6.5 years ago. My prior career was in fashion, but it lacked the creativity which I loved and I hated sitting behind a desk crunching numbers.

I have always loved to paint, and makeup. I love getting dressed up and creating a character or look.
It was something I was naturally good at being an artist all my life.

I decided life was too short, I wanted a creative career around people.
I wanted to begin my own business using my artistry and creativity to make people beautiful and confident in their own skin. They say if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. The journey is hard- but ultimately the most rewarding.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a bicoastal makeup artist originally from NYC and now living in Santa Monica LA. I specialize in beauty, commercial and editorial makeup. My style tends to be super glam with a skin focus.
I have recently picked up hair styling as well as the needs of the industry in LA called for it.
What sets me apart is: My background in fashion, being a theater kid as both my parents are actors, having experience in a wide variety of artistic mediums. Experience around celebrities and on production sets, movies and TV/ film.
I think I am most proud of my journey and how far I have come. My willingness to take risks, and to not give up. Because truly, as an artist- that’s what it takes.

This road has not been easy. To start over ( as I have done twice – once on each coast) as a freelance artist, without having a steady gig mapped out is a big challenge.
You have to be confident, but humble, believe in yourself, learn as you go. Be grateful. Say thank you. Have integrity, morality, don’t burn bridges. Make sure you are inclusive. I am always learning and becoming better everyday.

I come from love and try to bring love, gratitude, hard work and good energy into all that I do as an artist.
I have learned from amazing artists like Scott Barnes, worked with Jennifer Lopez, been at Fashion week with Tom Ford,
done music videos with Megan the Stallion and Dua Lipa under artist Ryan Burke.
I have worked retail to Runway, red carpet to movies and a lot in between. I am grateful to all that have guided and helped me be the artist I am along the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow – this is hard!! I am still learning! I moved to Santa Monica from the South Bay in September so I’m sure it will evolve as I am here for more time.

I would definitely take them to the beach, grab Pastries and coffee at Gjusta – walk along the beach from the pier and enjoy the sites.

Chez Jay for live music and food/ drinks on the back patio.
The penthouse for drinks and an upscale dinner with a view.

Drive up the coast to Malibu- maybe go to Nobu for sushi or paradise cove.

There are several hikes we would take for sure.

Shopping in the promenade or on Melrose.

Brunch.

I’ll have to think on it and keep adding to this list….

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have supported me on my journey. I am truly blessed.

My parents- for always believing in me and being proud of me for recognizing when I needed a career change and to start over in a creative field.
They are my biggest champions and I would not be here without them.

The powder group. This community of makeup artists started by Michael DeVellis have given me support, community and education. It has also connected me to some of my closest industry friends and amazing educators that have lifted me up and believed in me when I needed it most. People like James Vincent.

Auralis Flores and Lindsay Kastuk. My makeup besties, making this tough industry easier to navigate from the inside – out. We are each others biggest supporters. Auralis has been a great mentor. I don’t know what I would do without them.

Scott Barnes, we did a movie together and he is the reason I moved to LA. We have had some amazing experiences together and he was a great teacher and a brilliant creative.
