We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal for my career is honestly to find happiness. Sure, making money and being famous are the typical things people may want while pursuing an artistic career, but, I want to look back with pride and joy on the journey itself that I experienced. When I make music, I do it from a vulnerable and deeply rooted place. Music has always been very special to me and something that I cannot go an entire day without. As a musician, I want to be able to reach people with my words, whether it be in a fun entertaining way, or in a deep thought-provoking way. The artists that I have grown up following, like J. Cole for example, have provided me with more than simple songs, but strong and beautiful pieces of art. If I can inspire others, make them feel seen and understood, and give them a piece of art that truly benefits them, then I can rest assured knowing that I achieved my goal as an artist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a musician, specifically a rapper, with a unique style that I developed by incorporating my favorite aspects of the artists I listen to, like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, A Tribe Called Quest, JID, and many more. I pride myself on being extremely versatile, creating countless works with different vibes and my own unique approach towards them. Being lyrical is something extremely important to me, and something that sets me apart from other artists. My lyrics are designed for listeners who take every word in, as I mix punchlines with storytelling to get my feelings and message across on each track. It was not easy at all to get to this point in my career, and even now I still struggle with finding a good work-life balance. One of the biggest issues I faced was not feeling comfortable with my style at first. During my early years as a musician, I tried to fit in with what was trendy and cool to my peers, and as a result, I made a lot of music that didn’t properly represent me, and that didn’t sound good because it lacked authenticity. After years of trial and error, I was able to develop my style, one that I am truly proud to call my own. Never giving up, being comfortable in my own skin, and constantly trying to outperform myself, are what have allowed me to overcome most of the challenges I have faced. I want the world to be able to view me and my music as a testament to what hard work and faith can accomplish. My music is truly an extension of me, so I hope that by creating music with emotion, values, and passion, I can deliver projects that people can truly resonate with and enjoy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area the first place I would take them to is Coconut Grove to walk around, enjoy the vibe, and get a bite to eat. My favorite place that I have eaten at in the Grove is Chug’s, the food there is absolutely amazing. I can eat a lot, and let me say that the amount of food on that plate is more than enough for me after a night of walking around and talking. The other place that I would take my best friend to is Key Biscayne. If you come on a trip to Miami you HAVE to go to the beach at least once. To me, Key Biscayne gives you the Miami feel while still being pretty chill and away from the overwhelming energy in busier more touristy spots. Lastly, another great spot that I would take my friend to is Arcade Odyssey in Kendall. I absolutely love going there to play the variety of games that they have and ending the night by sharing some food at the Denny’s not too far from there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to recognize my amazing and supportive family. My mother, Vanessa, father, Kenny, and younger brother, Aidan, have been there for me every single step of the way, encouraging me even when I felt like giving up. Without the support of them and my other family members, I would not be anywhere near the person I am today, let alone the musician I have become. In addition to my close family, my best friends have worked side-by-side with me to help bring my projects to life. Whether it’s helping me film a video, taking photos, or creating amazing edits and artwork for my projects, my best friends are always by my side ready to help. I believe that having amazing people around you is vital to becoming an amazing person yourself, and I am truly blessed to be surrounded by the people I get to call family.
