We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille Mathis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camille, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been a massage therapist for the past 7 years, but I have only owned my own business for the past 2 years. I initially thought I would always prefer working for someone else to keep stress low, but my desire to bring massage therapy to my own community and in my own way quickly changed my thinking. Once I found my passion within massage therapy, I had the confidence and drive to venture out and start my own business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My business is called Helping Hands- Massage Therapy. I never thought I would be a massage therapist, but after high school I was looking for something and massage was a presented to me as a profession that combines my love for people and for holistic wellness. Over the past 7 years I have had the unique opportunity to work with many families, including children. Having an opportunity to work with children sparked my interest in pediatric massage and over the past year I have become a Certified Pediatric MT and a Certified Infant Massage Teacher. I am so excited to venture into a new year of business and implement the knowledge and skills I have gained.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Columbus, OH so there are so many great restaurants and cool bars. If a friend was in town we would definitely do a food tour starting at the North Market for lunch and maybe go check out the lights at Franklin Park conservatory, and have chill evening at Tavern in Olde Towne East. One day would definitely have to start with brunch at Kitchen Social, another afternoon spent checking out Easton mall. The art museum is free on Sundays, so a Sunday morning there would be great an of course dinner at my mom’s is always the best meal in town with lots of love and laughter.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I, of course, appreciate all the support from my family and close friends! My two best friends have been some of my biggest supporters and cheerleaders. They both have owned side business in different industries, and they constantly encouraged me to venture out on my own and have provided so much insight and direction since I have started my business.
