We had the good fortune of connecting with Captain Matt Eckert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Captain Matt, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Florida is a vacation destination for people world wide. The fishing In Southeast Florida is some of the best in the world, so when you combine the two it makes for great business opportunity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Starting a business from scratch is always scary. The uncertainty of ” Is this going to work” is real. Giving up a steady paycheck to try to make it on your own will keep you up at night, but when you don’t have a steady paycheck and you don’t have a Plan B you MUST make it work and will do whatever it takes to make it succeed. I always today myself when I started my business each day I woke up I wanted to keep adding to what I did the previous day and if I keep working day in and day out that the money will follow. The Fishing industry is massive in Southeast Florida 1,000s of Charter companies, but what helped us leap above the majority in a fast period of time was our active involvement on social media from the beginning and also collaborating with top Youtuber’s in the fishing industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it was a week long visit you would have to spend sometime in Miami and then make your way down to the Keys. Hard to pick out exact locations because Miami to to Key West is beautiful in its own way, but for an outdoorsman like myself making a trip to the everglades national park is a must and Robbies in Islamorada would be on my short list.

Eric Thomas one of the top motivational speakers in the world. Listening to his lectures and his life experiences gave me the confidence to start my own business.
