We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carla, what do you attribute your success to?
I find that my success comes from authenticity and drive. I think people can relate to my art and also see all the love and dedication put into each piece. I am extremely passionate about art and tattooing. I always try to keep growing as an artist.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel very lucky to be where I am today. Tattooing is a particularly difficult craft to master or learn. Most Tattooers endured all the struggles throughout their apprenticeships. Consistent of working 80 hours a day for years. It takes a lot of guts and perseverance to get through the early stages of learning. Because a tattoo is permanent, I’m sure I don’t have to explain the anxiety that also comes with the early stages of tattooing people. It’s a long road to get to the point where you feel truly confident in your work. I love a challenge though and I think that’s where my drive comes from. I love studying art and continuing the chase on how to get better. I have to be my own worst critic because no one else is going to push me as hard. I love creating for people. I love all the people I have met as clients, who are now friends. A lot of times people get tattooed because it is extremely personal to them so you get to connect with people on a different level and it feels special for clients to share that with me. I can’t express how happy it makes me when people enjoy my work and if I can make someone feel happy, powerful, sexy or just cool with their new tattoo, I have done my job.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely have to check out Croissant Time in Fort Lauderdale for a delicious croissant or French pastry. I also love Planta it is an all vegan restaurant in Las Olas that always hits the spot. I spend my free time playing tennis at Hagen Park in Wilton Manors. I love visiting Fairchild Botanical Garden for a nice walk around some beautiful plants.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Husband, Josue definitely deserves a shout out. He is my strongest supporter and cheerleader. Through out my entire career he has always been there for our son when I am tirelessly working and creates such a positive environment for all of us. His support has been essential to my success.
